Here’s the current version of my character concept. It still needs lots of work, but no point hiding it :P

The final picture and background story will be posted in a week. Hang tight kids, it’s going to be messy!

Hey!
I just noticed this thread here:D
I reeally like your concept. I've always liked this style, and i want to try it someday...

Anyway, do you have any background story yet?
To add something, maybe a dogtag would look cool on him.

Would like to see more:D

The story was actually made before the whole character was done, but now I'll just have to write it. Maybe I can delegate a friend to do it, since we created the actual idea together (dont thing thats against the rules :o).

The necklace was also an idea I forgot to add. The idea was that Tommy naturally is a very disturbed person that lost his wife and carries the ring close to the heart. Nice cliché, if you ask me.

Happy modeling to all of you guys! May the meanest and ugliest bastrad win (meaning the character.... naturally ;P)

Nice concept! I think it's workable, really admire the details and the colors work well together. Interested to see the model started.

Model was created with Blender, ZBrush and Photoshop.
The actual images was rendered since the Blender game engine doesen't have that good antialiasing. I suppose that's ok, right?

Here's a turntable animation on the model, which of cource looks a lot better (1280x1024 - 27,9Mb)

You should write a book or something:D The model is really nice, can't wait to see the whole character.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks :) The story was written by Tommi Jutila, a friend of mine. I'm trying to get him writing again after many years and he kinda promised to write the rest of the story (one more chapter like that), plus the character background it self.

The model has crappy lighting, but I thought that I'll post the pic's anyways :smug: Oh! Check the animation rather than the small picture :P

Got most of the nesessary stuff together, but still lots of work to do. I think the updates will be more regular now on.

C&C is very welcome, but notice that theres still stuff missing and the cloth wrinkles will be reacting to them

I like the progress, but I think what made the most for me on this concept was the facial character which I think got a little lost in translation. The biggest thing that I can pick out is the animality that is personified through the larger top lip section in the concept. It gives him a more royal lion look and it's missing from the model.

I would love to see your entry in first place! Just a little bit of motivation from the scum down here XD

cool concept and starting sculpt. your character would also make a wicked Left 4 dead survivor IMO.

Those are really good suggestions, thanks setschaos and FrZnChAoS! I made the head quite fast and roughly, but I will definitely start making changes according the comments. Setschaos, your idea of the lion is really nice. If you may, I would like to apply a image of a lion in back of the jacket. I was thinking what to draw there :)

Made some details to the head. Lets see how well it works with the (upcoming) hat.

Tommy keeps getting wilder by the second. Sculpt is really taking shape.

I second that. The sculpt is looking better. Especially the beard. Right now it does look like the cheek bones should be less defined, while the upper lip seems like it needs more definition.

FANTASTIC! There it is, you really put it back in. I could see some more playing around in the face if you really want to showcase it, maybe a little soul patch under his bottom lip or letting the eyebrows stick out on the side of the brow some more. Great update, can't wait to see more.

Off to work on mine since you're blowing it out of the water

Looking Nice, are you still going to give him the weapon on his back? What is on his back btw?

Jerico
15-12-2009, 08:14 PM
Tarik2d: Theres gonna be the trafficsign-axe-thingy, shawed off shotgun and a M4 Carbine in a old winchester rifleholster. Kinda mixing different styles, but the weapons are gonna be there later. The rifle is gonna be in his back... naturally.

Basically the concept is still valid in all ways :)

like the idea and the modelling is cool, but i think the arms need some attention. The wrists are quite thick compared to the rest of the arm. but on the whole good start

looks really cool!

I guess Chrisp-3DT is right and I might also add some other issues I notice:

kneepads seems too high, or the legs seems just too straight, almost rear bent...

the coat thing he's wearing is strange...

Jerico
16-12-2009, 11:12 AM
Nice to have constructive comments :)

The hands really need more work. That's for sure.

About the legs, the cloth fold so that the legs seem distorted. They look to be quite correct in my eyes, but it is true that the kneepads should go more downwards.

The jacket is currently reacting to gear that is non-existent now. The folding is made according some lowpoly placeholders, like the shotgun in the right leg and the weight of the rifle. The design is in my opinion really unique and fun, so it is a bit strange.

Dude; awesome concept and an awesome model. I can't wait to see you finish!

Something's bugging me about the face though; his mouth seems a little too wide. More like a gorilla than a man, but hell, it could just be stylized. Plus I don't think I'll care when you're done - the key component for his head is his hat. That's what's eye catching anyway. Just thinking out loud I suppose.

Really can't wait to see the finished product. Keep up the great work!

Happy holidays! Here's where I left the model week ago. Only normal- and color map applied... so the specular might be a bit funny currently. Still lots of work to do :)

Jerico

Tested the model in Marmoset Engine, like everyone seems to do :P I think it gave a lot better results than the current final post I sent. Darn it.

The problem is just that I have no idea how the alpha's work... only so few tutorials. Can any one point a forum thread or a tutorial I'w missed, where they explain it properly?

Also, Blender exports the chunks as one piece. No mather what you do, so use Max or Maya to separate the objects so Marmoset understands it. Just a hint.

Tommy imported to a engine called BlendELF, which is written by a friend of mine (link) (http://blendelf.com/).
