joining the FUN!
Heres my concept for 2012...
Story:
After a huge devastating earthquake that has destroyed half of the west coast, a huge tsunami, probably due to the fault in the western sea came in, as if to sweep out any survivors and hope... 2012
The final matte would be a bit wider than this one.
for the concept here it goes!

Update time:
Final concept and look, but I still have to choose what palette I should go for, I guess I need a little feedback from you guys... if you have any idea also on how to improve this one, I'm all ears.
Thanks Mateja, although I think I half understood what your saying... lolz...

I was thinking more details, so we can better understand what you wanted with to do. This is already looking good. Waiting for more detailed sketch. Maybe wider format?

thanks M, Yes I've placed some details on this one. I don't plan to go way too crazy, since I don't have the luxury of time... so something easier for me to handle...
I might proceed to the final matte tonight and try to make my experiments there... Yes definitely a bit more wider on this one... looks a bit cramp and the flash flood is not there yet... oh well...
Thanks fro the comment M..

Killer composition!

Thanks Matellis, here is an update and Really final composition, next up is the mattepainting process... starting with the background....
I somehow like the composition this way, with the eye being led to what will be the center of the image. It also shows the impending flash flood / tsunami entering the already destroyed city.
any comments guys?

Hi DB! Nice to see you here too!, The scene is after an earthquake. On the left side if the painting would be a huge tsunami coming in... since usually tsunami's come earthquakes... its sill very early on this stage... I still have to do a lot of experiments to finish this thing :)

I will finish this on the 28th since I'll be off on vacation from that day to the first...

thanks guys... destruction and sky is not yet final... I will finalize these guys hopefully by the third... also I would be adding maybe tons of smoke and small fires since this image is a scene right after the earthquake... with intensity of about 8 or more.
Thanks again for dropping by...

another update... this would be my last for today and I'll be back on the 1st of January...
Tried to test out some smoke and tried to push the depth and realism a bit further. Also played some skies on the back...
I will develop this further...
comments anyone?

nicely done man, only thing I would change if you have time is the middle building destruction as it isnt integrated properly as the building kinda turns round (you can see the shadow) whereas the support coloums say otherwise.
congratz on your entry though :)
nice eyecon, the destruction is great

Thanks guys... its been really difficult to pull this one off. I guess I had to much to chew on. And I just noticed that the image came out too dark for me... Darn it! Oh well next challenge then...

posting the slightly lighter version... I was soooo tired yesterday I didn't know the image as too dark for me.. anyway here is a much lighter and more acceptable for me now...

thanks again guys. It was my pleasure creating this matte. Very challenging, and I guess 1 month is usually not enough to finish it.

Hi eyecon
Thanks for pointing out that I wasn't in the final entries thread.
Very cool work from you. I just think that some of the elements don't aid the composition, otherwise I would've voted for yours.
(I don't really like my final image. Very sloppy, whereas yours is crisp and clean)

no problems man... your work honestly is still a bit painterly BUT its the first look that makes it look realistic... Like the classic mattepaintings, thats why I voted for you. Your work reminds me of the real mattepaintings that was used before. Good luck man... and see you on the next challenge?

Very ambitious amount of destruction. Well done!
