View Full Version : Eyecon : The Cleanup 2012

joining the FUN!
Heres my concept for 2012...
After a huge devastating earthquake that has destroyed half of the west coast, a huge tsunami, probably due to the fault in the western sea came in, as if to sweep out any survivors and hope... 2012
The final matte would be a bit wider than this one.
for the concept here it goes!

beautiful lighting in this man. Love the towering cliff faces in the background.

Thanks man, those are actually buildings... just blocking them out for now :)
09-12-2009, 08:00 AM
he he. Common Eyecon give us some juice :)
09-12-2009, 03:31 PM
Final concept and look, but I still have to choose what palette I should go for, I guess I need a little feedback from you guys... if you have any idea also on how to improve this one, I'm all ears.
Thanks Mateja, although I think I half understood what your saying... lolz...

I was thinking more details, so we can better understand what you wanted with to do. This is already looking good. Waiting for more detailed sketch. Maybe wider format?
10-12-2009, 01:33 AM
thanks M, Yes I've placed some details on this one. I don't plan to go way too crazy, since I don't have the luxury of time... so something easier for me to handle...
I might proceed to the final matte tonight and try to make my experiments there... Yes definitely a bit more wider on this one... looks a bit cramp and the flash flood is not there yet... oh well...
Thanks fro the comment M..

Thanks Matellis, here is an update and Really final composition, next up is the mattepainting process... starting with the background....
I somehow like the composition this way, with the eye being led to what will be the center of the image. It also shows the impending flash flood / tsunami entering the already destroyed city.
any comments guys?

I think you should start with matte
18-12-2009, 05:47 PM
just a quick update, not final yet still geting the right elements, if fell that the center building is demanding too much attention, I might change it...

Hi eyecon, nice to see you on a new contest!
Near the city do you want place a wall of water or ice :???:
Waiting 4 new update....
20-12-2009, 02:09 AM
Hi DB! Nice to see you here too!, The scene is after an earthquake. On the left side if the painting would be a huge tsunami coming in... since usually tsunami's come earthquakes... its sill very early on this stage... I still have to do a lot of experiments to finish this thing :)
20-12-2009, 09:54 AM
Very good idea eyecon!
I saw the 2012 movie and I love very much the scenes with earthquake and lands sinking into the sea!

thanks DB and Atulkatdre!
Here is a new update for mine....
No color edits yet, small paintovers and nothing special... just placing all the elements on their own space.
I will finish this on the 28th since I'll be off on vacation from that day to the first...
27-12-2009, 08:59 AM
putting the elements into place... now it needs more foreground elements, more destruction and lots of smoke and fog....dang! One more day for me....
27-12-2009, 10:13 AM
gr8 going sir, its gonna turn a gr8 scene....
waiting 4 da nxt1....
27-12-2009, 03:53 PM
Eyecon, nice destructions you have there.Try a stormy sky.
28-12-2009, 12:01 AM
thanks guys... destruction and sky is not yet final... I will finalize these guys hopefully by the third... also I would be adding maybe tons of smoke and small fires since this image is a scene right after the earthquake... with intensity of about 8 or more.
Thanks again for dropping by...
aaaannnnd another update!
28-12-2009, 04:35 AM
another update... this would be my last for today and I'll be back on the 1st of January...
Tried to test out some smoke and tried to push the depth and realism a bit further. Also played some skies on the back...
I will develop this further...
28-12-2009, 10:29 AM
the smoke adds a lot of depth. I love the destruction atm, its so detailed and high quality. keep it up.
28-12-2009, 01:00 PM

28-12-2009, 01:47 PM

03-01-2010, 10:32 AM
Hey guys! I'm back! Continuing to finish this matte:
here is a quick update! A few more hours and I'll call this done!
03-01-2010, 03:19 PM
Great angle, great vision and great skills, the best of luck man....
03-01-2010, 03:32 PM
Thanks Dr. Rno....
Here is the last update... next one will be the final...
03-01-2010, 07:10 PM
final one... :)
03-01-2010, 07:24 PM
nicely done man, only thing I would change if you have time is the middle building destruction as it isnt integrated properly as the building kinda turns round (you can see the shadow) whereas the support coloums say otherwise.
congratz on your entry though :)
nice eyecon, the destruction is great
04-01-2010, 12:22 AM
Thanks guys... its been really difficult to pull this one off. I guess I had to much to chew on. And I just noticed that the image came out too dark for me... Darn it! Oh well next challenge then...
04-01-2010, 12:48 AM
posting the slightly lighter version... I was soooo tired yesterday I didn't know the image as too dark for me.. anyway here is a much lighter and more acceptable for me now...
04-01-2010, 03:24 AM
Great work! All process from first sketch till final work was interesting action
04-01-2010, 10:05 AM
thanks again guys. It was my pleasure creating this matte. Very challenging, and I guess 1 month is usually not enough to finish it.
04-01-2010, 12:39 PM
Thanks for pointing out that I wasn't in the final entries thread.
Very cool work from you. I just think that some of the elements don't aid the composition, otherwise I would've voted for yours.
(I don't really like my final image. Very sloppy, whereas yours is crisp and clean)
04-01-2010, 01:12 PM
no problems man... your work honestly is still a bit painterly BUT its the first look that makes it look realistic... Like the classic mattepaintings, thats why I voted for you. Your work reminds me of the real mattepaintings that was used before. Good luck man... and see you on the next challenge?
05-01-2010, 06:03 PM
Very ambitious amount of destruction. Well done!
