View Full Version : Mclean - Army of One - Sergeant Elena Rose
18-12-2009, 10:09 PM
Hi! first comp for me here over for 3dtotal, im originally a gameartisan so please dont kill me! :haha:
heres my characters story:
Sergeant Elena Rose, Ex-SWAT member who using her previous expertise and her previous combat kit to stay alive, slightly modded to fit the new conditions of the world. She uses her riot kit from the late 23rd century, equipped with shock/stun weaponry, she believes in avioding a killing blow if she can due to her police background but obviously keeps a loaded gun at all times for those "special" cases. She uses power armour modded with deep underwater kit to protect herself from outdoor dangers and obviously firearms/gas.
heres a paint over of her! original picture from 3dsk! and my main reference for the armour, a concept art painted by the awesome ukitakumuki http://ukitakumuki.deviantart.com/ check his stuff out its bad ass! there will be no helmet so you can see her head! also the suit will show age/damage!

damn that guy has some sick stuff!! But comon, come up with your own idea. Don't just copy someone elses.

JGavin - Ill try dude! ill paint something tomorrow, i just wanted to show the direction i was heading!
18-12-2009, 10:23 PM
k good to hear, sorryy i was kinda harsh. keep it up.
18-12-2009, 10:32 PM
Great direction. Good luck with that. Maybe in your concept you'll remake the original hand. It's too small imo.
18-12-2009, 11:16 PM
Martin_x - well spotted! ill beef up the hands, was thinking of making the hands weapons themselves, sharp finger tips/power fist! cheers dude
JGavin - no worries dude

11 hours later and i think i maybe coming close to the end of the head sculpt going to bake it off tomorrow morning, wouldnt mind getting some critiques off you guys before i do so! one is a zbrush render with a quick texture, another just a mat cap and finally the low poly! which is around 1,000 tris.
looks to be coming along nicely. can u post the normal applied to the low poly mesh?
19-12-2009, 01:24 PM
head is looking really good so far, nothing to critique in my opinion. Keep it up.
19-12-2009, 01:26 PM
cheers guys, currently away from my game art laptop, should be working on it again in a few hours and ill post up the normal map and AO for you to have a look dude!
19-12-2009, 07:40 PM
heres a quick painting over my head sculpt of how i want the area around the head to look! im posting a model of it very soon, working on her armour as we speak! critique would be great!
19-12-2009, 10:29 PM

20-12-2009, 01:31 AM
oh yea good idea, ill be sure to try out different gas masks, might even design my own! :), rights thats me done for the night, critiques greatly appreiciated!

I love that concept art that you found, really inspiring.
The sculpt that you've done looks good, I like the padded inside of the armour :), however I think that the armour itself (or the neck piece, I don't know how you'd classify it) looks a bit too soft, therefore I think you'd be better hard surface modelling it in max or maya :smug:
20-12-2009, 04:20 PM
cheers guys, i think ive finished up the bust and will be moving on to the body, times running out!, ill be sure to stick to as much hard surfacing modelling as I can to make things have a harder edge!
20-12-2009, 04:29 PM
wow, thats got a lot of character to it! keep it up :D
20-12-2009, 10:21 PM

26-12-2009, 04:59 PM
sweet work man, I wish it was possible to get an extension too, but I don't see that happening...holidays killed this one for me, guess we're gonna have to make it work :D
26-12-2009, 05:28 PM
yep looks like its a fight to the end, heres some gloves im sculpting based on new set of military gloves in the US army.
27-12-2009, 07:34 AM
Haha i might say that i'm kinda glad that you might make it for this one is a killer !!! I'm totally speechless. You Are amazing!!!!
very nice work. ur understanding on sculpting cloth is pretty good. R u using zbrush polysphere's for the hi poly or importing a base mesh?
27-12-2009, 02:51 PM
cheers guys, im honoured! as for the sculpting part i make base meshes in 3dsmax then "shell" modifier them to aviod that wierd tearing that happens in zbrush when theres 1 sided polys, then when im done sculpting i take the lowest sub-d into max and delete unnecessary polys before unwraping and baking, hopes thats helped E4sy!
30-12-2009, 08:51 PM
finally done it, the hardest sculpt ive done so far, im shattered!, im going to get the low poly finished tonight which gives me 4 days to texture! man i hope i do it! heres the sculpt!
30-12-2009, 09:05 PM
Very cool concept. Your sculpt and modeling skills are impressive. Good proportions of body. I hope you'll complete texture right in time!
