Hi there everyone, happy new year to all....
Wow, it's funny to see that it seems that a lot of us had chosen to use water to destroy places..... so good luck to us......
And the best of chances to all, then again, happy new year!!!!!
The Seine's water level went up, Paris is slowly moving underwater.... the city won't be taking by a giant wave, but with the help of the sea's water level everywhere arond the world, that creates some kind of a stream and fat large smooth waves keep on pushing and making fall the monuments, the buildings......
After that date of 21.12.2012, Paris and its suburbs will only be a huge marsh...... the scene that you're watching takes place.... in the twilight zone..... lol
The best of luck to everybody.... cause all I've been seeing is worth seeing (winning?lol).....
See ya all soon.....

Voting Time has come!
Here's how it's going to work, initially there will be a public vote to decide the top 5 places.
To qualify for voting you must have at least 50 posts to your name or be a competitor of the challenge you are voting in (must be the same stream too, so a matte painter cant vote in speed modelling for example, unless he has over 50 posts)
Please choose your top 3, your first place gets 3 points, 2nd gets 2, and 3rd gets 1. We will use these final entry threads for public voting also.
Public voting will be open for 1 week.
Then the top 5 will be judged by a panel (to be announced) to decide the final places, this will happen during the second week of the month. winners will be announced when all the judging is final
Ok people, get voting and good luck to everyone!!

It is the time so......
1/ Jaredr
Cuz his vision is original, it's a great idea.... as one theory about 2012 predicted the impact of a tenth planet, maybe if thi case it's a moon, whatever, great skills, great idea, good comp... well, my number one.....
2/ BBB
Okay, BBB dude you're my second choice..... I liked your comp, your photo assemblage on buildings... well your angle is good (as always lol.....).... great skills again, good work on waves...... too bad that you didn't have mess with the cars.... maybe lack of time.... congrats....
3/ Claw
Great idea, very great job on the moon or planet we see with atmosphrical pers... really nicely done.... I like this comp, your angle... that really gives the scene a good messy mood.....
That was very difficult to choose, I would also mention The Saraf, Atulkatdare and Akim which I also liked very much........ Anyway, this month's challenge show us great talented people.... very impressive....
I enjoyed the level on this one.....
See ya dudes....

Damn I was so quickly, I agree with youEyecon.... Andreas' work was very good indeed.... but in the same way, I'd like to mention Dennis and Miledream who were unable to finish cuz of their works.... those dudes would have rocked if they had finished..... best of luck to them on their works.....

1. AndreasRocho: Just the enormity of the appending destruction is jaw-dropping. Definitely the better of the colossal "earth ending" wave cataclysms.
2. jaredr: For the most terrifying "end of days" scenarios. Unlike the film 2012, there's no escaping that one.
3. TheSaraf: The Niagara Falls downtown. I think your painting is composited together very well and the cool color palette really sucks the life out of the atmosphere.
Great job to all the entrants and good luck.

Voting is now closed - sorry for the delay everyone, I have been away and just got back, the top 5 going through (in alphabetical order) are :
andreasrocha
bbb
claw
eyecon
jaredr
The panel of judges will now make their choices and comments and an article with the final winners places will be published later this week. Well done to all competitors and especially the 5 above who get through to the next round!

Tom-3DT could you please check your count of points...
TheSaraf 14 points
Claw 9 points
Why didn´t I make it in top 5 ?????????
Tom-3DT
19-01-2010, 04:16 PM
Yes I'm really sorry you are quite right, I will put you through to the panel judging instead of claw.
Many apologies under a bit of pressure at the moment.
So the top 5 are;
andreasrocha
bbb
eyecon
jaredr
TheSaraf
Tom
boooo! My hopes and dreams dash at the last moment. Seems a little unfair that I don't go through to the judging because some people who voted for me had under 50 post when andreasrocha posted his artwork after the deadline and still gets included. Surly the rules must be consistent for all participants. (nothing personal against andreasrocha, his work is very good a deserves to be seen by the judges) but if its about technicalities then i feel i have to bring this up. I don't think anyone should be removed but maybe a top 6 as seen as the circumstances.
Thanks
Tom-3DT

yeah sure you can have a t-shirt, sorry that's the best I can do, let jo (a) 3dtotal.com know your size and address please!
cheers and apologies again for the mess
Tom
Sorry Tom I wasn't trying to get myself a free t-shirt. More I was hoping that 6 could go through to the panel judging instead of 5, as critical feed back is what i would most be after. The question is why are the rules enforced on me and not on andreasrocha? or, why are the rules bent for andreasrocha and not bent for me? The latter being my preferred outcome. If the rules are enforced then I make the final and not andreasrocha or if the rules are bent (i.e all the votes counted, as originally happened) then I make the final and not TheSaraf. In both cases i make the final judging. Its only if individual rules are picked to enforce and ignore that I miss out. Which seems unfair. So Tom why are some rules enforced and not others?
Thanks
Andreasrocha & Thesaraf nothing personal and I hope no hard feelings. as I said I would have hoped that all six could have gone through. Good Luck to both of you.
jaredr
19-01-2010, 11:16 PM
the fact that you are not included with the finalists does not at all have to to with bending the rules. It was probably just a simple mistake. None of the people who did not qualify for voting were counted with the final votes. The numbers are there. And seeing as there are only 9 entries, over half of them have already made it to finals.
On the other hand, it does seem like several rules were changed, including the deadline, and the total number of finalists, which did not have a major impact. But in defense of andreasrocha, the final entry thread was not mentioned in the matte painting forum, and the quality of his work stands out in this contest. In defense of the integrity of the contest, he did clearly post after the deadline, which would put Claw in the finals.
It's no big deal what's happened has happened. Just letting off steam last night! Thought all three could state a Fair claim to being aloud in the finals.
Anyway refs decision is final.
Love you all! Pease out. Ect ect.....
I don't see a big problem here or direct violation.
Andreas posted his final work in his thread in 06:49 PM 31-12-2009. So, there is a big difference between "can't be in time" and "forget to post in right thread".
Claw, don't forget it just a forum challenge ;) You have a good chance to win in this month.
Hey Akim I understand totally that it was probably just a mistake it wasn't posted in the final thread and I don't think for one minute that it shouldn't be in the final judging. My point is why should his mistake impact me when I followed all rules 100%. The deadline was the 31 and then moved to the 3rd, the same for every one. Why are the winners not the people who got the most votes and followed all the rules plus special dispensation for andreasrocha because although he missed the dead line, it was a very good piece of work that a lot of people voted for. This seems a more sporting solution than removing people who met all the criteria for people who didn't. It can't be much harder to order 1-6 than it is 1-5. anyway i will get off my soapbox now, stop ranting and promise not to say another word about it in these threads! :wall:
Good luck to everyone who did make it to the final.
stay frosty!

This place is exciting!
Been gone for weeks since I was busy... good luck guys! Whoever wins my hats off to you.
Although on a special note... the stuff we do here for this particular challenge is not Mattepainting, more like concept work :)
