One of my favorite artist's is Odd Nerdrum (http://www.google.com/search?q=odd+nerdrum&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a).. i own a few of his over-sized Art books and have always been fascinated by his style/technique (along with his subject matter)

recently, i wanted to replicate his technique in Painter 11.. i started out by spending a lot of time learning the Impasto brushes inside and out-- to the point where i modified them to create my own unique variants.. and then i created a Custom palette with my own brushes.. i spent several weeks created abstract paintings, getting really comfortable with the behaviors, etc.. and then decided to use my learning to create a figurative study of one of his works.

so, over the course of 2 weekends-- i created this (total time approx 16hrs)

If you use/know Painter 11-- i mainly used Thick Oil brushes (modified), Grainy chalk (modified to act as Impasto), various palette knives.. a modified Sargant brush that just applies Impasto and i constantly switch between paper variants (these affect the tooth of the paper)

i plan on creating more of these studies in the future.. i had a lot of fun and learned a ton about creating a digital impasto look!

Interesting work - and hard work - to fit the colours and all the shapes. The main idea - the face expression you've done very well, my opinion...

I would say you have achieved your goal and in the process put in some personal touches. The colors are fairly similar as are the strokes an the facial features. Very nice work.

Oh my God! You achieved something that's really hard in my opinion: to be that good with impasto! Thank you for sharing your talent and studies with us!! That's something really eyecandy and worthy seeing!

Keep it up!! =D
