Hi guys. I'm new here and this is my first 3dtotal contest. As I think every society must have their own leaders. So I've decide to create such type of bourgeois with some mechanics parts of his body.
I'm still not sure about his appearance. But anyway I'm going to start modeling now :max:

that looks pretty sweet man, but how would he use the gun with such a huge hand?

Growl
10-01-2010, 07:12 PM
Thanks guys. It's very nice to read your so positive comments. I really appreciate your support.
2 Appr_oved
I don't see any problems here. Usually gunners pull the trigger by their right hand and left hand used for holding the barrel. My character doesn't have his left hand so it's OK as I think.

2 jnumber9
I will man. I swear)

Thanks guys. I really appreciate your feedback, it's very helpful.
About trousers, the base mesh was made in XSI. For the folds I usually use standart, smooth and pinch brushes. The main thing in this process is to have some good references and great patience. Stripes, belt, gears and boots were made in XSI too.
Ah, and one more thing. When you start folds sculpt try to decide what type of fabric you need to create. I mean if you want to create satin for example the big and strong folds will look strange and unnatural.
Hope my terrible explanation will help somebody :D

imho his shoes are a bit too small compared to the legs? but thats hard to judge without seeing the full figure

buzz001
15-01-2010, 07:31 PM
Like that old fashion look. Nicely done, and good point about the folds in types of fabrics that models are created with. Is always overlooked.

Growl
15-01-2010, 08:18 PM
Thanks everyone.
2 goast666 Yep, that's a good idea. I'll think about it.
2 armians Maybe, I'll check it.

The update will be a little bit later. Now I have some not finished job) But in the next update I'll try not to disappoint you :)

Growl
18-01-2010, 01:32 PM
At last one more update. As far as many people like the stripes on trousers I've decided to add them on the sleeves too. Now I'm going to finish his head and hat. And then mechanics arm and weapon. Omg, so much work to do))
Anyway c&c are welcome.

Nicely done, facial features are well defined. A true steampunkish cut and shave, and the custom completes him. There is one thing that kind of stands out for me and are the gloves. They look great and sit well on the hands, but they seam a bit out of place with the rest of outfit. I can vision him wearing the gloves but full cover and not with the fingers cut-off. Keep bringing the updates model is looking great.

Good sculpting. Nice hat.

Growl

2 buzz001 Yes, I agree with you. The gloves is looking out of visual style now. I'll do something with them.

At last I finish my highpoly. I've been working too long so now I don't have much time and I decide not to make the shotgun. Here is my character and closeup of his mechanical hand.

The mechanical arm is amazing. Congrats on great highpoly

Warlock 279
25-01-2010, 02:39 AM
I think the integration at the shoulder could have been a little better, it just sorta switches form mechanical to cloth, some overlap in the cloth would have been nice. That aside, it looks really good, that's a sharp looking suit, and a really nice sculpt. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it from here.

25-01-2010, 04:38 AM
Good job! I like his steam hand! It's incredible. Hurry up with low_poly and textures.

Growl
25-01-2010, 07:22 AM
Thanks a lot guys.
2 Warlock 279 Thanks. I think about it. It's not visible on my previous pictures, but there is some tubes under the jacket that gives me ability to animate mechanical hand.

Cordero
25-01-2010, 07:58 AM
I really love the hand!
I don't know if you are planning to put some scratches on it, but it could look cool.

Could you show us the whole high poly model?

Growl
25-01-2010, 08:03 AM
2Cordero Glad you like the hand :) Yes, of course I'll add scratches and some oxidation spots at the texturing part.
Whole highpoly is little bit upper on this page.

Cordero
25-01-2010, 08:11 AM
Oh, my bad:D

I'm curious about the weapon... Did you start it?

Growl
25-01-2010, 08:23 AM
No, for a pity I don't have much time for this. Anyway, my character is very rich person and can pay for the protection to somebody else :D

berendey
25-01-2010, 08:25 AM

looking good, u got any wires? is this normal and AO?

Levus
27-01-2010, 10:55 PM
Looking cool, I'm waiting for textures:)

JGavin
27-01-2010, 11:01 PM
nice, coming along good. Do you still have enough tris for the gun though??

Also, the shoulder area could use a little more work. The joint where the jacket meets the mechanical arm is a little too harsh.

Martin_x
28-01-2010, 01:07 AM
Looks great man. I think I have the exact amount of tris)

Warlock 279
28-01-2010, 03:12 AM
Looks like your model transitioned to low poly quite nicely. Looking forward to the textures.

Growl
28-01-2010, 06:28 AM
2 armians Thank you :)
2 Tarik2d Thanks mate. Yes, here is the wire. It's only normal map, without AO.
2 Levus Thanks, the textures always most difficult part for me.
2 JGavin Gratz) For a pity no, I decide that I don't have much time to make the shotgun so I spent all free polys to mechanical hand. Of course, I can cut some polygons from character and make the gun from them but I don't have much time and free UV space. And I agree with you that shoulder looks a bit rough, it wasn't good design idea, maybe textures make it looks better.
2 Martin_x Thanks, wish you luck with your char :)
2 Warlock 279 Thank you, textures will be soon.

Fbios
28-01-2010, 07:11 AM
Looks great. Very clean normal map! were you bake it? Did you bake normals to the valves on his shoulder? I think with occlusion map it will be awesome!

berendey
28-01-2010, 05:16 PM
Good job. The topology of low is very clean and normals looks great.

I think you will fight for the highest place!

Growl
28-01-2010, 07:09 PM
2 bibhuti, Cordero, JGavin, buzz001 Thank you guys. updates will be soon. Now I'm working under specular map for mechanical hand.
2 Fbios Thank you.If I understand question right I usually bake all maps in 3dmax of XSI because this programs provide great control under projection cage and normals direction. I use 3dmax for this model.
2 berendey Thanks mate. Hope I will but there are so much talented modelers and great models in this contest :)

Woah man:D That looks awesome! That arm is crazy:D
If the next challenge is going to be robots, i think you shouldn't join for the sake of others:D:D

have you ever worked on a game? I mean you have the skill now i think. I would love to see a character like this shooting at me in a game or somethin':D

Great work!

Thanks guys, it's great to read so kind words :)
2 Cordero :D It will be great to participate in the next chalenge, but I realy tired now and have some job to do. About your question, yes I have some experience, but there are still a lot stuff to learn. I'm outsourcer.
2 Rsantiago I don't have much time for experiments so I decide to use simply 3dmax scanline :) With the glossiness map it provides not bad result.
2 berendey Thanks. I haven't made everything that I planned to do. But I hope people gonna likes my character :)

And of course thank you guys for your support during this contest.
