Hi guys! I think i have an idea of what I want to do this SMC. I'm a bit lazy to draw it down this time so I will just have to keep you guys in suspense ;). Here's a quick render of the wheel at 27mins.

Hi everyone. It's been a bit hectic over the last week with work but I finally got a chance to flesh out the shape I had in mind. Still have to build the connectors, weapons and do a little more detailing. Looks like it might be a little tight on the time but most of it is duplication so it should be okay. All feedback is welcome :)

I really like where this is going, nice modeling.
Are the connectors going to be solid joints or a soft connection (like bellows connectors)?

that looks wicked,

It kinda reminds me of the drill thing from "The Core"
what program do u use to model it with?
and can you show us some wires? ;)

Hi everyone,
Added the connector and tested out a few turrets. I was lazy and decided to make them out of the wheels to save time. The smaller ones look okay, but I will be removing the larger ones to be replaced with Anti-Air and Long range Artillery. Also still have to add all the last min details. All feedback/Crits are welcome.

@noyb: Thanks noyb. I was thinking of making the connectors like one of them accordion like connectors we see on buses and stuff. I've added to the wip below. It was very easy to make and took hardly any time.

@Rachel vd M: Thanks Rachel, I use XSI to model and Hypershot to render. Ill post a wire below so you can see the meshflow.

i really like the style nd the design of your vehicle czacen. The red wheels really bring a more meaner look to it. Can't w8 to see the final details on it!

Hi rocneasta. Thanks bro, I've replaced the gray tires with red ones and I must say I am liking them more ;). Are you gonna be joining the fun in this SMC?

Replaced the guns with one SAM. Took 12 mins for the SAM. I might skip the next turret for now, finish the detailing and then see what I can do at the end.

love the improvements. about me joining the creative minds, i'm afraid i'll pass this time around... 2% chance of sun and SMC isn't big of a chance...

nevertheless love the wheels now!!!

that's really impressive, i like the clean polyflow,
how about a nice railgun as the cherry on the cake

Awesome model Czazen, one of my favs. When kid, I had a remote controled vehicle very similar to that.

Only "crit" would be that, if you have the time I would try to correctly join that some meshes for the model to be more "correct" and have some nice chamfering in those edges. But if not, there is no big deal.

Have you thought of making a camouflage pattern? It would be nice if you combine that with the "batmovile" look that it already has.

@Avishek: Thanks bro. Haven't seen you on the threads much last month, are you going to be taking part in this SMC?

@Rachel vd M: Thanks Rachel, the railgun is an excellent idea. Im gonna give it a shot. Pun intended :)

@pables: Hey bro where have you been on this SMC? Was hoping to see some cool stuff from you this time too. Thanks for the feedback, you are right about some of the edges needing to be cleaned up on the intersections, but sadly I don't think I will be able to get to them in the little time remaining.

@berendey: Thanks Berendey! Though Unimog is sure giving me a run for my money. :D

Hi everyone. Almost done and almost out of time too. Only 20 mins and a railgun remains to be built. If not I will just have to make do with reusing one of the smaller turrets again. Added details mostly with duplication of one of the pieces from the wheels. Did some tidying up on the missile launcher and the front grills etc. posed it quickly to showcase the accordion effect. Will prolly go with a diff camera and stuff for the final render. C&C always welcome.

Hey czazen, thanks for your kind words, I've been a bit busy, but I think I still have a chance of making something, Im gonna see if I can find some time this week.

No big deal with that edges bro, your modell is still awesome, my favourite so far.

Very cool concept. Great modeling and render.

awesome concept, i really like it, but too shiny for me, maybe some scratches?

@Zanman: Thanks bro. What happened to that Manga discussion thread we were going to start?

@H2k1: Glad you like the design. I agree about it not looking too military with all the shiny bits. I will try to do a textured piece with more realistic feel for the surface.

Hi all. Its finally done. Wish I could have spent more time on the gun but its all I could piece together from existing parts with minor tweaking. Anyhow I might do a textured model for the beauty pass this time. C&C welcome :).

BTW, I was looking around to get some references for the final colour scheme and found that there is indeed a species of Krait snake that looks like this!

Thats wicked!

i like the gun, and the colour scheme,
Though at first i thought the "hubs" of the wheels were fixed to the body, with just the red tires moving.
now i see the entire wheel moves. still its awesome ;)

Lovely. The render sheet is clean, and I think you were true to your inspiration.

2 cents
There's one thing that's bothering me though. With such low ground clearance and wheel space, this vehicle looks like it would be at home with crowd control in a clean environment (think Mirror's Edge) but not as effective in a post-apocalyptic warzone (think Terminator 2). All it would take is one mangled piece of metal to lodge itself into that tight wheel well and the whole thing would be incapacitated.

I love the model and render, but I'm not sure if tackles the "all-terrain" part of the brief.

Rachel vd M

it could, if it was something gigantic, like those sandcrawlers from Tatooie ;)
though then you'd have to scale it so that it is about 10 meters high ;)

Hi guys thanks for the feedback. I agree with you, Bluesummers-3DT, about the Terminator 2 type terrain. However the exaggerated smoldering ash type landscapes that are in the opening of T2 can only be effectively traversed and fought on using troops and aircraft (hence the conception of the t-800 itself). According to the brief "This vehicle is designed for harsh environments and meant to be capable of traversing all types of terrain, from snow and ice to desert and urban warzones". For the most part post-apocalyptic cities will look like the image below and I had intended the vehicle to be more a slither, slide and stealth type motion (like the snake) rather than the crushing brute force motion of a tank. Design wise the front and rear wheels were placed right up front so that if it hit any uneven terrain the whole flexible accordion effect would allow the vehicle smooth motion over any surface without effort.

Yet you have a valid observation in that the vehicle looks too ground hugging at the moment, and its wheels look too close to the surrounding body. I will raise the vehicle off its wheels for a better sense of clearance. Right now I imagine the vehicle total height to be some 8~10 feet and the ground clearance at some 2~3 feet. As Rachel has suggested I can play around with the scale a bit to fix the ground clearance. My thanks to both of you for this invaluable feedback :).

this is just perfect, so nice concept, so clean hard edges modeling, really really enjoy it. I like it best so far.

I really like to play with this little snake on an RTS game :D

Ya I am a bit off form the SMC lately. Cannot give in much time.

Be assured I'll be participating in the coming SMC's. But I am still looking at the submitions in this SMC:haha:. you are doing a great job.

Been following this and I have to admit its easily my favorite design out of all of the entries so far. Innovative idea and the colour scheme is great. But I do agree too shiny, but thats just a minor aesthetic thing. :)

Hopefully one day I'll be able to make something as high quality as this.

Well, don't forget these guys ;) (http://www.uberreview.com/wp-content/uploads/terminator2tank1.jpg)

Anyway, the model looks really awesome.

@ shackleberry: Thank you very much shackleberry. I was hoping to get down and do a totally textured version with scratches, dirt and stuff but just can't seem to get the time to sit on it this week.

@Claw: Just pick a colour and I'll send you one in the mail ;)

@Aramor: Thanks bro. And you're right, there were those other tank bots, but as far as I can remember they weren't very mobile. But they sure made mincemeat out of the humans though.

Hi all, just like everyone else I'm wondering what happened to the final entries thread. For the time being here are my 3 submission images. I had hoped to do a fully textured image for the beauty pass but I have been really bogged down with work and ever since last week I have been frequently visited by the flu bug. So it's the eleventh hour and the best I could throw together was a Pshop paintover. Hope everyone likes it. Good luck to all, it's looking to be a good SMC this time :)
