My turn! I'll have to bother BigToe later about my thread title when I've settled on that really cool, possibly clever name, 'cause I got nuthin' at the moment.
Didn't intend to be so delinquent starting my thread, but here it is, better late than never, got busy working and before you knew it.....one steam powered penny farthing. Kinda sucked up a very large chunk of my budget, but oh well.

nice job - glad I am not the only one spending a lot of poly's on extras. Do you have some concept art of the final? Right now I am having trouble with the front fender being so thick.

poopipe - Hahaha, it's built to be rigged anyway, mechanically plausible, we'll see time permitting tho. I'd like to get it rigged up, should be pretty cool.
Buzzy - Indeed
xxxcubanxxx - Thanks.
thefatninja - No, I don't have a concept, I'd planned to do one once I got the mechanics of it sorted out, but I was 2/3 of the way finished with it at that point, so I just rolled with it. Ya, the fender is thick, but its as much the "Back bone" of the bike as anything else, so It needed to be relatively thick .
[B]Insania - Thanks.
goast666 - Here ya go good sir....
I guess I'm mostly done with the modeling then, 9999 triangles at the moment. Got the obligatory goggles, silly hat, and revolver, also threw in a wrench for good measure, think that covers the genre as far as character accessories go. Poor fella needs a name... :blah:
[Ignore the fact that the wire frame image of the pennyfarthing says "3658 triangles" as the correct poly count for that element is 6341 triangles, some people aren't smart enough to proof their images before they upload them; they are also often the same ones that are too lazy correct the image and re-upload it]

you don't know how to waste tris, do you?
On your next model, try it. Add like 17 edge loops to the elbow, just for fun. You will feel great.

Nice ride, the model looks good. Is that a colt .45 a la Clint Eastwood from "Spaghetti Westerns" films.

Lol, I might have to try that, it does sound like fun.
Tarik2d - Thanks.
buzz001 - Its actually based of an early 1860's LeMat revolver.
Quick update, got going on the the textures, doubt I'm gonna be able to finish them anywhere near as thoroughly as I'd intended, but I should be able to get it all splashed with some texture in time for the dead line. 75% self-illum/35 diffuse. Still some smoothing to sort out, didn't plan to use any diffuse initially, but a little helps.

Hey Warlock 279! The vehicle is a nice idea.
I see you posed your model... Could you tell me whats the best way to model joints, like shoulder, elbow etc. ? I want to model all of my chars to be able to do any movement which is humanly possible.
I already figured out that its a good idea to set the model in some sort of middle pose, so the polys doesn't have to transform that much. Is that correct?

Cordero: here's something, I speak for Warlock as I am his attorney...:D

...was wondering how he'd sit on that thing but now I see the restrictions set in that thought; really neat, cool idea. texture quadcore-style and finish early.

Cordero - Yep, Mr. Joseph is a good man. I'd have posted the same thing and probably added some lame "words of wisdom" or something, so he spared you that. ;)
chris_solo - Thanks. You starting to get geared up for DWV yet?
Joseph Pomeisl - Well done sir. And...cool...I've got an attorney...now if only I had an agent to procure work for me. Glad you like it, the seat's based on those old style tractor "seat pans" I thought it suit the contraption
Tarik2d - It's supposed to be a bit more fun than it is serious, so I'm glad you're getting a kick outta it.
Been quadcore at work on textures all evening...there's not likely to be any finishing early tho. Pretty much everything has the first pass done. The gun and a couple of his accessories still need a little attention, then I can go back over everything for some details and hopefully a lighting pass as well.

;) I don't know if there is a scheduled DW V ... apparently I had rather hear that there would be no fifth edition, perhaps it is only a rumor...

There is going to be a DW_V. They are doing the mini challenge now. Go to gameartisant.com and you will see a link for DW_V

Well DWV mini challenges haven't started yet. The first DWV mini will start in the end of the March or on April 7. So I assume the main challenge won't start until the mid April. The mini challenges that are going on now on gameartisans are for the DW cinematic.
By the way the character and the vehicle look great!

chris_solo - I've heard that V is supposed to be the last. Then they're taking things in a new direction or something. Like you said tho, rumors are rumors so who knows.
Tarik2d - Just make sure you're flying the right colors when you do. I heard something about lynching traitors.
Martin_x - Thanks.
Not terribly much done in the way of textures today, but I did get a new light bake, and poses/lighting etc done. So I'm free to texture till the end, no need to save time for wrestling with the annoying stuff. Ditched the straps on the jacket in favor of of a cigar.

This looks pretty good! I like cigars, and i especially like the cigar added to this guy:D
But you are far from finish... coz u didn't gave this piece any name, if i remember correctly. You should practice that with this challenge:D

30-01-2010, 10:35 AM
I prefer the first pose with gun in hand! it is more dynamic!!!
you did a great job for me. the idea of the car is really incredible.
so good luck with judges ;)

...haha, I'm terrible at giving things names. My file directories are full of files like "SteamPunk Dude_xx" "CyberPunk Chick_xx" "Spaceship_xx" "Little Spaceship_xx" "Medium SpaceShip_xx" etc. I think I've just about settled on one for this tho.
chris_solo - Yep, first pose is for the winning shot, the second two are for the beauty shot. The vehicle is pretty simple conceptually, was a beast to actually build tho. Its really just a pennyfarthing with a Hackworth valve gear slapped on.

newhere - Thanks. Any bits in particular you're interested in?
Tarik2d - Good man.
Joseph Pomeisl - Sometimes the cosmos align just right allowing for the use of the most stupid, completely plausible and perfect name, you just gotta go with it.
Quick update for tonite, not much changed on the bike, most of my work has been getting all my ducks in a row for final images, and finishing up the textures on...
...the man they call J.C. PennyWorth.

Nice name:D
I like the gun, and the texture of the "bag" on his leg.

Cordero - Thanks. Ya, I was liking the really warm colors for this.
InTheClue - Thanks.
chris_solo - Thanks mate. Ya, I could have used a photo, but I wanted to keep it all hand painted. Its not as bad as it looks there, its was rendered on a black background, and composited onto a light background so it looks kinda off.
Growl - Haha, ya I made, it just barely, think I had about 8 minutes to spare.
Well, my official final images are posted in the appropriate thread, and rather than repost them here, I'm gonna dump some higher res "director's cut" versions.

That's some bicycle, I want to drive one of those! :D
Good job man!
Warlock - it's the hat that really did it for me. But I think if it had been the hat an goggles from the Train Job then more people might have caught it. (J.C. was a nice touch too)
