I have the idea but keep it secret for the moment

UPDATE
Small sneak peek

UPDATE II

This is what I am going for :D But with some kind of solar power. A mix of this

Ahhh seems like we are both thinking along the same line of design. Great minds do think alike my friend.

hammering3D
03-02-2010, 02:55 PM
yes, that I was say to U in u'r thread that I have same idea and found myself u'r references to, but I chose an more easy design than u, less complicate. But still difficult for me, but like U said we must challenge ourself:)

TNTxGRAVE

For the solar generator and panels, do you plan on having that attached to the main body or have it as a stand alone model that hooks up to the drill to power it. Because i am still debating on if the generator on mine should be attached or detached.

hammering3D
03-02-2010, 03:08 PM
I don't know yet, I will think later when I see how much time I have :D, I rely enjoy the idea of an separate model like an fuel generator that power the machine, but to have more mobility, make it like an trailer puled by the tractor. But if the time is short, I just place it on top of the tractor or some place on the main body.

hammering3D
03-02-2010, 03:10 PM
Trailer like this but with solar panels

TNTxGRAVE
03-02-2010, 03:13 PM
ohhhhhhhh that can have solar panels attached to it...lol

90min so far I don't know if fast or slow :*poly:

rocneasta
04-02-2010, 03:28 AM
looking good so far, only one advice get the main structure done, and worry about the parts later. When you get the whole thing done i doubt the details will be that visible in the overall picture, as would be visible that the machine is lacking a drill :)

just saying even though i know you are aware of this.

TNTxGRAVE

I grab myself to speed modeling and almost finish the little big tractor ;P

I finish 200min till now so I'll have 40 min for the solar panels, cables, and final tweaking. I think they are more then enough :ufo:

real awsome model mate, makes me wanna sit in it and go wild and drill :).

hammering3D
13-02-2010, 08:20 PM
Thank you guys, I feel good known that people like it.

JanJaap abd TNTxGRAVE - hmm I kinda done that form my head :), is not true spiral is like a cone with blades and yes they are not very sharp, I think I will look more in to it, but I don't want to make it a spiral so I guess I'll put some kinda bumps on a cone.

Like the drill form south park :D

Cool! Though i don't know if it would be able to push down on the ice enough to drill into it. Cartoon physics, maybe?

Cool! Though i don't know if it would be able to push down on the ice enough to drill into it. Cartoon physics, maybe?

Like he is to short ? or the movement don't allow it ? or just because it's small so less power ?

What is Cartoon physics ?

I finis it ;P

I use all the time, except 5 min if I spot something wrong later on so 235 min till now.

serious: awsome modeling job hammering.
this model i like the most of em all in this competition so far. it really kick ass.
everytime i see it, i wanna have some like that in my backyard and drill for gold or oil :p

15-02-2010, 09:39 PM
hehe thank you bgen :D, I appreciate U like it.

I myself like tractors like that, when I saw them working at the roads or something. I rely like some day to drive one :D. but this little ones small bulldozer, excavators, drills etc, are so small and nice like toys for grown up persons.

The rule of thumb for solar flux for a single day is 1000 watt-hours per square meter . That would either get you one watt of power for a 1000 hours, or 1000 watts for an hour. That would allow you to run ten 100 watt light bulbs for an hour.

But most solar panels don't run at 100% efficiency; most fall into the 10-17% efficiency range. That means for each square meter of solar panel you have, you are only going to get 100-170 watt-hours total each day. And if the panels get covered in ice or dust, the efficiency goes down more.

I found a small auger that you can run off of your car battery for dirt or ice: http://www.wikco.com/rhd.html

The specs for that auger is 12 volts with a 45 amp draw. Since watts are expressed as amps * voltage, that means that this little auger draws 12 * 45 = 540 watts per hour. So to run this auger for an hour would require 540 / 170 = 3.18 square meters of solar panels, and the panels would have to have been charging all day.

You're going to need a lot more panels to run that thing.

sarN - thank U, I work usually so messy and I am glad when something of mine look clean :D
rocneasta - yeah clean work not dirty not hard cause the machine do the hard part.
alfonzoaqui - actually the solar panels are to much powerful for the little machine, U know those are special panels a technology given to earth by the Asgards from Stargate, they have like 10000000000000000000 watt-hours per square millimeter. And also they charge a naquadah generator that is inside the tractor, also the drill is made from naquadah, and the tractor can drill not only in ice but in subspace and parallel universe to. It look simple and classic just to fool the Goa'ulds that we did not evolve to much but in reality it is pretty evolve tractor, under it it have sub space engines and can transform itself in a small ship. I know that it have no windows on the side of the tractor but the cockpit is protected by force fields shields.

love your work man, and the fact that is a SF thingy, if we want to be negative with all i'm sure we can find some stupid thing to say... hmmm that's not earthly enough :))
(if you got my point ok, if you don't... nvm)

Cheers

Very NICE comeback Hammering3D, my solar panels give off like 90000000000000000000 watt-hours per square millimeter.

hammering3D

yeah but yours is bigger it can be a mother ship :D that's why u used more power ;P

Thank you Hammering, in fact I've updated it, and its almost finished, take a look if you have time :)

I encourage you to texture it, its looking so good even with textures, so with some texturing it is going to be ace. One of my favs this challenge.

Keep the good work!

edit, in fact, some cartoon texturing like some of your works could be nice!

Hum...

Try to make a criticism, get smacked down with sarcasm... How professional.

And the point to trying to be helpful is?

The thing that U detailed so much the specification of a solar panel and give a link to power consumption of an manual drill was funny ;P
They are and where in many speed modelings futuristic models that don't exist in real word, is an art challenge that people have so much imagination and I don't know if so detailed technical details is required, for me at least is not. I am an engineer having the diploma and master diploma in engineer field but I never look an model form that side of view but from fun, artistic and modeling way.

Like rocneasta joke some post before, we don't import the models in inventor and test them, is just art, they need to look functional, but they really need to be ?! I don't think so it wood kill the art thing cause well, a space ship is not functional in the present!

I wasn't offend by the critic, and I did't want to offend U, I just laugh and yes I was sarcastic but because I find the comet funny and fun is good I think. :shy:

If U look at some impressive models in this challenge U will see that using an real dimension panels it kill the art side.
When I watch those models I like them so much, great modeling, very very nice concept, amazing attention details and beautiful renders, and they look functional and thats enough for me and I don't care if they really are or not.
I look for mesh errors, modeling problems, for things that really could make them unfunctional. :halo:

sarN model:
http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?t=74124
It can really fly ? It can really have enough power ? I don't know and don't care, it's sweet, its ok with the subject, its original and sweet modeling and render.

bgen model:
http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?t=73578
Same questions abut flying or power, but man it's an fiction model, I don't search the anatomy of an bee and quote the theory of wings and stuff. But I know that after he post the render it's my wallpaper :shy:

TNTxGRAVE model:
http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?t=73476&page=6
Same type of machine like my tractor, same small or even smaller solar panels, but for me is the candidate for first place. It's have amazing amount of details in the 4h limit, the mesh is very clean , I can't spot errors, the tractor is sweet, so if he render some 1600X1200 render and the tractor was like 320X240 part of the render and the rest was full of solar panels it would be sad

So thinking at those models and many many others that I did not quote here, I found the need to be sarcastic about u'r comment, because was funny, because with that argument those models are not ok with the subject. But is just fiction world, and things that I joke about my model that it can do, could be true in this fiction world actualy I would like to be some kind of transformer tractor that transform in an space ship and fly to TNTxGRAVE model and play tractor soccer together :smug:

hammering3D
28-02-2010, 08:43 AM
I play at little last night with some renders, but I am disappointed, so I will try more today

hammering3D
28-02-2010, 02:59 PM
I think I go with something like this :D

I don't know if it's allowed anymore to use for the beauty shoots other 3d models, before there where allowed :shy:

TNTxGRAVE
28-02-2010, 04:21 PM
LOL wow ....me? candidate for first? That's a real honor Hammering3D. Thanks man.

Maybe our models should get together and transform into one giant EVIL drilling machine.
