Name is a nod to the inspiration

A deep space operatic style scene where some kinda armada is constructing a massive perfect sphere as an offering to a god-like superior species (the nebula like thing!) lol

not sure how im gunna take this, probably just a digital paint as thats my strength. maybe il make a sphere in 3ds......:haha:

any and all crits very welcome at this point, still not sure bout ship design and position in the shot.

Nice start there. White lines on black is a far less imposing way to start. Very nice!

Nice green nebula style cloud formation surrounding the planet/moon there. I'm starting to see more clearly your goal and it's really gonna look impressive when finished, I can't wait to see more :)

I assume this piece will be a matte painting?

The concept looks really cool, i will be interested to see where you go with it.

Thanks dude,

@andrewhall1234: unfortunately i duno how to matte paint really so this will be a straight paint paint lol :haha:

@NeoGeo: it does look a little like the death star construction huh lol :ufo:
didnt even notice until u mentioned it but i guess i musta been thinkin it at some point:haha:

this update i've just blocked in some details, havent really got to work on the sphere yet and still a few ships missing but i been playin too many games this weekend :)

getting better and better

CLP
14-03-2010, 04:58 PM
been a tad busy lately but i thought i'd chip in with my latest wip, not changed much but hopefully the details make the difference, added more stars after realising how dense stars look in space. also brought the nebula 'god' closerand started putting in some cloud detail but i've not worked on the foreground an awful lot yet, hopefully il hav time to finish this one:zzz:

ps missing the nebula reflection because i wanna finish the new one first:smug:

@Tarik2d, chunkymunky: thanks guys, hopefully its developed a bit more. this is the latest update with the nebula thing pretty much as developed as i want for the mo, maybe needs more depth adding later. done some stuff to the ships too but still needs some more work there really.:shout:

Like your star "sky".
Something bothers me, but it's a subjective comment, in a shuttle there is always a lack of space.

NIce scene!
I actually like the panorama window as it is a cool major element in the composition :)
I would perhaps elaborate a bit on the screens on the window a bit more...

NeoGeo
17-03-2010, 08:02 PM
looks epic. i like the smaller planet gives it more depth

CLP
17-03-2010, 08:50 PM
@washka, im not sure i get what u mean but this is like a mothership type thing where the architect is... :)

@hulahuga, indeed the pscreens on the window still need more detail and curvature adding to match the windows.

@NeoGeo, thanks dude, i changed the scaling further by bringing the nebula closer but im wondering what people think about that. Theres a bit more detail in the clouds and the whole scene feels a little more epic with clouds beign so huge but i actually prefer the look of the overall cloud in the previous version.

any ideas?

@gauravcg, wargrafix: thanks guys, was hopin my idea might stand out by bein a little different

@hulahuga@ wasnt quite sure i got what u meant but i did add some red to the cloud lol.

still iv got most of the image in place now, maybe some tweaks here and there and some detailing needed on all the ships.

wow'
i very much like how you define the scale and size of the piece'
it makes me feel like i'm right in there as part of the scene too'

aside from that'
my only suggestion is to use more color pallets?
i'm getting a lot of greens' but if it works for you keep it! :)

thanks for the reply guys!
not a huge amount of change this time.

@ll481ll: i agree about the colour palette and ive done some tweakin, added some purples and reds into the backdrop as well as an oily whorl effect on the surfaces inside the ship.

what do you guys think? better with the colour changes? Im thinkin that the bottom right side is a tad bare but i dont particular want to plonk somethin there if it doesnt belong.

anyways any advice would be cool, cheers!

WOW

impressive!!!
guess you might add some other floating screens like folders of a huge desktop...just to fill the empty spaces and to drive the eye around the picture but without distracting too much...

chunkymunky
24-03-2010, 10:44 AM
Reminds me alot of Minority Reports screens but on a much bigger and wider scale, I really do like the colour scheme and it's a great depiction of a futuristic scene and that cloud formation/nebula around the planet(s) is ace! :)

CLP
24-03-2010, 12:50 PM
hey thanks dudes!

@Mr.fE: good idea, cheers. il be adding sommat like that when i get home today :) think the architect might hav a porn folder on his desktop.....? lol ;p

24-03-2010, 04:03 PM
Just a few pointers

I like the extra ships :) Gives a bit more of a scale sense. The small ships are a great addition as well :D You could add one with just the space as background to further the immense scale.

Another way to make the window look curved could be to make those screens a bit curved as well...

The floor reflection is also quite nice, but what if you tuned it down just a tiny bit (check it out).

One odd shadow line also seems to be in the top part of the clouds...

Cheers :)

CLP
24-03-2010, 08:44 PM
thanks for the suggestions hulahuga. I tried to implement a few of them, the curvature of the screens and tuned down the reflections a little too. totally forgot to look for this odd shadow in the clouds before i saved the latest version out and havent added extra ship yet though il probably do that before too long. takes forever to save this file now :haha:

anyway if theres any more advice or ideas feel free to list em. o and i was thinkin the scene might be startint o look somewhat cluttered now. anybody else think so? what to trim off or shift if it is?

o, another idea but not sure, should i add the topside of the ship that this scene is viewed from. just at the bottom of the panoramic window, should i show the huge topside of this ship is what i mean lol

For real. The reflections really sell the image. I was going to suggest artificial lights, but the dark haunting feel works perfectly.

one quick update before bed. just added the topside of the ship we're in. dont know if it looks that great. if anyone got any ideas about how to improve it aside from putting tiny windows around the place which is somethin i might be doin to it, feel free to suggest stuff.

Looking so so good so far, lI really like the folders added it doesn't detract from the rest of the scene too much it's nice and subtle.

hulahuga
26-03-2010, 03:40 PM
The folders are a really good element in telling the concept, but you could try moving them a bit to the right. Same goes for the ship with the thruster thingy, move it a bit away from the focal point. Further the sense of foreboding and calm before the storm...
