thats cool man i graduated year ago and went right into gow3 on cinematics. best tips i can say is, learn as much as you can, both max and maya, hard surface and organic modeling, spend 80-90% of your time doing your work, i didnt go out, have partys, or much of a life. dont spend too long playing games, if so study them and try to recreate the cool things you see. clean topology, and clean unwraps are main thing too.

thanks everyone, heres wireframe of the scne, this will also be in one of my monitors lol.

Please don't do that....a wireframe in the monitor is so lame and corny....

I love the modelling man!

What you do is you nest a render inside a render inside a render. By that I mean, the computer screen in the image has the final rendered image in it, which is then re-rendered into the screen again, repeated until you can't see the image repeated any further.

I'm sure ruben can figure out the best way to approach it.

yep i model quads as much as i can, anything 99% quads. and for the screens ya i did this b4 i saw your post of the repeated render but it does have the ao render in it, this is about 90% done, got something i want to add and improve. thanks to everyone again.

Looks great, but the Kratos blade looks odd and almost as if it's inside the cabinet. It stuck out to me but everything else is SWEET, how long have you been working on this? There's so many different objects lol.

rubenvoorhees1
07-03-2010, 09:16 AM
ya its ment to be in the cabinet, might lower it more so it looks like its behind the wall. its been like 2 weeks now, week and half modeling and unwraping and rest texture, shader, and lighting. still addin more lil models

rubenvoorhees1
11-03-2010, 09:04 AM
thanks, im a modeler what else can i say lol. heres another update of some extras i added, somethings are not matching because main pretty render still needs to be rendered and my computer runs out of memory so when im at work sat ill render that and should be final.

Thats a great bit of modelling dude. Love it.Can see why you do it for a job.

This is amazing. I am stunned by the level of detail that you have put in. I have to say that the materials are stunning. What program/renderer are you using?

rubenvoorhees1
12-03-2010, 01:47 AM
thanks, i follow the rule of "devil is in the details" and also rotating things to make it reel. im using 3dmax09 with mentalray

SoldierofCatan
12-03-2010, 01:53 AM
I'm guessing then that you use the Arch and Design shaders.

Question on the carpet? Is it a plane with a bump/normal map or did you use a very dense plane with a noise modifier? Whatever method it is very convincing.

rubenvoorhees1
12-03-2010, 01:55 AM
ya arch and design but also altering there textures and numbers a bit. its a plane with bump and slight displacement map as well.

What you do is you nest a render inside a render inside a render. By that I mean, the computer screen in the image has the final rendered image in it, which is then re-rendered into the screen again, repeated until you can't see the image repeated any further.

Still corny...

Nice! Very realistic.

SoldierofCatan
14-03-2010, 02:21 AM
Damn that looks like a comfie chair. Can i have it lol

Anyway, this is very sweet. My only suggestion is that you lower the self illumination on the tv and monitors and up the reflection. There is a lot of external sunlight coming in through the window and I would expect to see a glare on the screens. This is the only fault (very minor) that I can find.

McFly

Good light setup, very natural.

SoldierofCatan is right, bit more reflections would do your image a lotta good.

Also, what's with the kinda old-looking, 5 inch-sole sleepers? They look huge.

i did a test with tvs not bright and with reflections but looked too dark, and reflections didnt show anything, the angle of the tvs just refleced mostly white walls since theres nothing behind camera lol.

Great work, you inspired me to model my own room and am loving doing it so far. You get a nice variety of things to model so it never gets repetitive!
One question though, how many texture maps did you end up using for the whole scene? Just for colour that is, not bump, disp etc.
I'll look forward to seeing more of your work in the future!

thanks guys i tend on doing some close shot when i get to work on saturday, i used about 15 diffuse maps for this scene. and maybe another 20 for just shader colors

Nice I see you used those planes for camera mapping?

rubenvoorhees1
19-03-2010, 08:22 AM
just used them so i can match box and planes in the perspective, since i cant see the bottom of the island wall with all my stuff in the way

Just goes to show how accurate your scene is then, all you gotta do is wait for a sunny day, open your blinds and take a higher res photo and line them both up side by side and i'm pretty sure they will look about the same, currently because you're ref photo is low res and darker with alot of noise your 3D scene will look better of course :) Cain't wait to see what you make next :)
