Oooh lot and lots of ideas!

Here's mine. A lonely temple ruin sits in the forest, tended to by a lone priest. What god resided here, to inspire such devotion in the face of such ruin?

Not a bad start, I like the ruins, at the moment it's looking like an ancient chess set though :)

Looking forward to updates

Added some hillocks on either side of the temple, a cliff face where the deity's statue was tucked into, and some scummy water in the reflecting pool. I also mixed up the paving stones a bit to make them less like a chess board. The niche in the cliff face would have been gilded in plaster and gold leaf, but that is long gone now.

To add:
broken statue
alter
grass & weeds
trees on the hillocks
vines on the cliff face
lintels on top of the columns
old priest

effects planned:
sunbeams thru the trees
dust
leaves blowing around
butterflies

On second thought, if the reflecting pool is 1 meter high, the paving stones end up being much too large. I'll have to redo that.

Fixed the paving stones issue.

Textures are not final, they're just for test.

This weekend I modeled the god's statue, and added some basic grass.

Brill, looks really, good, I think you should try and make of a feature of this guy

Wow this has progressed beautifully since I last saw it, the blind god of war looks superb! I definately think you should go for a focal angel with him as the main focal point, try a wide angled head on shot which will keep him at the focal point of the piece but also also the viewer to see the rest of the temple ruins that surrounds him :) Then you need a really good area/infinite light with area shadows and possibly some volumetrics to add mood, it's possible you could also try a cloudy/misty/foggy scene and make it all the more mysterious instead of the standard bright and sunny day feel etc :) Keep going, change the angle and start texturing more and you'll have a brilliant scene, cos that sculpted god looks brilliant!

Very, very nice. The ruined idea really presents the piece with alot of options. The state really works well.

I'm not fully beleiving a tree would grow there to be honest. And there's something about the scale of the tree that doesn't quite look right. Or maybe the camera angle is affecting the scale......at the moment the enormity and scale of this statue and it's ruins isn't being fully utilised, it needs a different angle possibly i'm not sure but it's looking off at the moment.

Hummm... Lets try this. I got rid of the back wall, whose texturing was driving me nuts. This allowed me to add more columns, and I moved the trees to the background.

A wicked skymap will make this scene sing.

So much better, perfect camera angle now, will you be using Global Illumination and Ambient Occlusion too, I think it'll need it, looking great for now though :)

AO set to Raytrace, samples set to 6, energy set to 1
Global Illumination provided by Hemi light, energy set to 15%
Sun Light energy set to 85%, color is a light pink
SkyMap provided by 0ptikz: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread?t=24038

Time to render with AO, Shadow, and Raytrace: 9 minutes, 17 seconds
Polygons: 881,562

I still have some texture cleanup to do, as well as some model issues with the stone floor.

According to the rules, all art work has to be created by me. So that skymap has to go. I'll just have to make my own.

Here's the wireframe of the scene.

What about a tree with black leaves... Or perhaps a tiny sprig coming out of the floor in front of him (could be a cool symbolism)..

The blind god is awesome, I really like the idea :) The cloth looks really nice on him as well.

Keep this up!
