Really awesome contest. I'm gonna have a go at modelling this, if that's okay. (http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=5988-1)

I'll start on it first thing tomorrow when my hangover is gone.

Ok, started working on the temple. It's not much jet, but it's something.

It's photo or 3D?

Aramor

It's 3d, but thanks for asking :)

I always consider it a compliment when people think it's a photo.

Yay Lego! :)

A little progress. I spent way too much time on getting a workable IK system for the chain, but I think in the end it'll be better than repositioning all the individual links.

Also, these shaders aren't final, especially the one for the fire.

Got some more work done. Unfortunately I didn't have lot of time today, but from now on I've got two guys to help me :P

Also, I couldn't resist making a happy funtime spring render.

really nice stuff:D i like them a lot.
the two skeletons are really funny:D
I suggest you adding a bump map for the lego writing on the elements, or extrude the writing if its a text. So they will be more visible.

Lol love the updates, especially the skeletons skipping through the countryside. This is shaping up really well. Have you modelled all the tiny lego logo's on the bricks or is it a bump map? :)

Hahaaa! Very good take!

Thanks guys :)

The logo on the Lego studs is an extruded text thingy. I can extrude it some more in the final render.

Nice idea, its different definitely. I wasn't sure what you were goin with as a concept, but then saw the link.

Good luck

Another update. I decided I'll put the rest of the studs in the right place when the entire thing is finished.

Last update for today. I managed to get all the studs in the right position, and since pretty much all the remaining bricks will go on the uhm, flat roof section you see now, 95% of the studs can stay where they are.

Also, I'll change the texture on those panels, since there are supposed to be 4 different ones, but I only got around to making that one.

Now it's time for beer.

I really like this and the modelling is strong but I hope you start playing with some better lighting soon, I realise at the moment you're probably going for easy lighting because you're test rendering etc. Have you thought much about the light? Atmospheric, brilliant sunlight, cloudy, demonic etc.

Aramor
13-03-2010, 01:19 PM
Yeah, right now I'm going with standard lighting. The previous 3 renders had 1 or 2 omni lights. The ones before that all have a skylight with light tracer, but then I'm already waiting 30 minutes for the render to finish.

As for the lighting on the final render, I'm gonna see if I can get something working with the VRay Sun thingy.

Nice stuff!

Beer is always good ;)

30 minutes is way too much for this scene. something is wrong with your rendering setup i think. Most of the time, scaling down to low preset gives the same result, and takes less then half time to render. I don't know how much you are in to lightning, but i'll try to help anyway:D

It's also realistic, and accurate copy of the lego pieces. I'm transformed back to childhood again, well done.

30mins????? Whats your hardware setup?

But it looks sweet though! Love the lego concept.

I think it's 30 minutes because I set some setting from the standard 250 to 500... that, and my computer is fairly mediocre.

Anyway, I'm glad everybody likes it so far. I'll continue on it tomorrow.

Sweet. This one and the South Park characters are my favorite so far.

Added some more stuff yesterday.

Aramor
25-03-2010, 08:41 PM
Almost done. All I need to add is the obelisk, the palm tree and the front half of a minifig on the top dark grey brick. Then take care of the other glyph textures and voila.

Also had a go at trying to make a little environment. I'm not too thrilled with it at the moment, but I'll make something better for the final shot.

I like it! Ground is blurry but its either intentional or you'll fix it im sure :D Legos FTW

Nice =)

Put some interesting lightning on that as well and you'll have a really good pic :)
