View Full Version : Conan the barbarian by Bigguns
24-03-2010, 09:02 AM
Hi all! not posted here for a long time, I started a version of Conan, I had wanted to do something medieval from some times, so why not a Conan, of course I will use my Arnold that I did before(for those who know me) and I had tweaked his face to mach more him in Conan.
But for now I post some accessories that I'm working on, the helmet and the laceneck are mapped the rest is not uwrapped, only temporare textures.
The Conan Atantlean sword is all done in poly modeling in 3dsmax, no zbrush, I want to save memory and render time..and doing some hard modeling too.
So for now it's that. Hope you like it.

A lot of nice edge work there!
24-03-2010, 11:30 AM
Yeah! Great details, nice enough material for the hilt, not too sure about the metal material yet, but you'll need a better background or scene for it to be placed into for it too reflect better etc. The modelling looks really good though :)

Hi all and thank's I'm glad you like it. Here is an update.
and here Conan without hairs and all
31-03-2010, 10:29 AM
Holy! Shiiiiiiitttt ballls!!! That's good! Looks just like Arnie! The eyes aren't quite right but looks as good if not better than the CG Arnie in Terminator Salvation :)
31-03-2010, 10:44 AM
i dont now if its the color of the eyes or the skin shader, but for now the face looks like a blend of arnold and boris becker. iīve watched every arnold movie a gazillion times (except junior) - and the likelyness is not 100% yet.
but i already smell a frontpageplug for this piece. will follow this thread as always, when bigguns comes up with a new one. props look excellent.

Totally agree with mantis. This is really good stuff :).
The top head shape looks a bit odd though... And he looks extremely sweaty.. ;).
31-03-2010, 12:27 PM
You like muscled men dont you?
Great work nonetheless :) Apart from the already stated likeness issue, it sure is on the way for a 5Stars piece!
31-03-2010, 09:08 PM
chunkymunky: Thank you buddy. Yeah CG is cg, even ILM with a 3d scan of the arnold head of the T1 are not able to get the likeness spot on,it's hard doing this, the goal is to be close as possible, but it's sure there is always rooms for improvement. But for now, my Arnold don't have eyebrows and hair and he is already recognisable, so with the hair and eyebrows it will be just more.
Psycho Mantis : hey man, sorry but I don't know how the hell you see boris becker in him lol. You said you've watched every arnold movie a gazillion times so can you, show me precisely wich part is off for you with a reference picture from conan, I dont do him at 50 years I do him in conan, so if you can find ref of him in conan and show me wherea I can improve him it will be good, I need to see reference, not your vision to make it better, some people find he's spot on while some other not.. so in the end, I cannot please everybody. I have the 2 conan movies here.. and I watched them a lot to compare. but remembre, there is no hairs and eyebrows.. it change a face a lot! And anyway, read the comment I wrote for chunkymunky, think it's the point, even ILM was not spot on on the arnold face in t4 so.. I will see with the hair and eyebrows how it will look.
hulahuga : thank but your comment about the top head shape is kind of useless, Arnold will have long hairs.. I will not wast time on his top head shape.
DaddyDoom: Thank's , Read the comment I gave to chunkymunky there is an answer.

05-04-2010, 09:24 AM
Ditto such amazing progress already this will only get better i'm sure :)
12-04-2010, 08:51 PM
hi there! Thank's all for your critics , yes I will dirt him a bit ;).
But Ithink I will render him with Vray, the fastsss2 is awesome :) here are some tests render, nothing is final! it's only testing phase, and there is just 2 maps use, one diffuse and one bump, for the spec I putted a noise for now, and no sss weight maps. The front scattering of vray work much better then the one in Mr I found.
The shader do not work the one like in mr, so it take some time to get it work right.
SO I did a HDRI set up and only one light! and the result is great, much better then what I got with Mr and HDRI. I can change de hdri maps it always look great, so that is cool.
but here are my result for now
hope you like it.
This is so great.
Those speculars on lips and chest are neat, however, I think they are a really too much.
Lower them a little bit (their brightness), and it will be awesome.
Keep up the great work!
12-04-2010, 10:19 PM
simply amazing :)
13-04-2010, 08:23 AM
It looks like he is wearing lipgloss...
But either way this looks immensely awesome :)
13-04-2010, 12:42 PM
Blimey Charlie! That's some beautiful skin tests, he's gonna look photoreal by the end of this :)
13-04-2010, 01:46 PM
yeah, holy cow!:halo:
Great job again! For my taste a bit too glossy but ist in progress, so is just great test!
15-04-2010, 11:28 AM
hey thank's all , I know about the lips, it's because I don't have for now a spec weight map.
an other quick test
15-04-2010, 03:40 PM
Just stunning, cant wait for more :)
25-04-2010, 03:14 PM
Defiantly got a likeness going there will he be rigged have morph targets and blenshapes?
25-04-2010, 03:38 PM
This is amazing
25-04-2010, 07:56 PM
this is so cool!
26-04-2010, 03:47 AM
wow this is stunning... great piece! cant wait to see the rest
04-05-2010, 10:54 AM
I'm just having more fun with Vray, an other test render of this guy haha, make me want to do him like a shot in Terminator 1 ..maybe one day..
I modifed the eye socket and make less wide his head, wich reproportionated his head a bit more I found. I can't do close up of his head, it's a old mesh and not that good for sbrush because the eyes are not close so I get some artefact around they eyes, really tricky to get out of this in photoshop.. anyway, it's good for a body shot like I want to do in Conan version of a Terminator also.
Hope you like it.

Looks like you have changed your sss2 settings , last renders were great, this one looks cool too but i think top layer is too translucent.
Looks bit waxy wit all that subdermal redness poking through.
And please share some tips about that mysterious sss2 shader :)
04-05-2010, 03:45 PM
Looking pretty good :)
Agreeing about the waxy look though... But it is still tests ;)
04-05-2010, 05:31 PM
I'm still amazing by these especially as they are just tests the final render is going to photoreal I tell ya!
05-05-2010, 09:40 AM
make his skin a bit more dark....
05-05-2010, 10:00 AM
Sorry a little bit anal but it's "Gimme Your Clothes, Now" not cloth's lol
11-05-2010, 07:51 PM
Actually it's: Your clothes, give them to me. Now!
awesome render and sculpting.
