Lets get it started.

This is a 30 min. mashup idea.

Sub title for challenge; The molten tomb!

Idea; Its the stuff of legends, a king buried in the most inaccesible place. But the treasure is not god or silver, but the power of the gods. A carved statue protects the king not only from the lava....but from those who would defile him.

lol, the new job is hectic but has a few perks.

about a thousand idea going through my mind on how I want to approach the piece. The lava chamber was nice, but the lighting scheme would be reddish, and similar to the lat one. I still want to keep the concept but get a nice vista while keeping the tomb raider in focus.

The challenge is to also tell a story. which one you all think will be better? First one or second?

Great start war, the character already looks nice. Would be cool if you add some kind of aztec/maya temple in the BG, so there is not only trees and jungle behind the character. It could be the place where she discover the tomb.

looks like the the extra work to do a second design really paid off. ^_^. I was going through ideas like in the midst of meeting the dead king and encountering the undead servants.

When I complete the linework, I will have to add more little detail to her like a gear belt.

MightyReg, thanks and your idea is pretty much what I'm looking at. A source of challenge to the final location, displays why no one had the guts to take on this treasure. I did a quick 15 min.s sketch

like a barrel gun, or infra red pointer, or just a bulky glove. i know its sneaky but that will add boldness to her too.


show color and try a version where the focus is on the kings tomb. if its a kings tomb it shall be grand ya know.

and lol what is waterfall of lava, u got affected by the heat? :P lavafalls, fire rapids, burning cascade are much better.

Nice start! I think that the woman is bit too muscular, but you can go with this of course, if you like it this way, because its believable.

Its been a weekend of highs and lows. Birthday and girl stress. Gonna use the tension to propel some art, rather than wallow.

I have made major modificaions to te waterfall idea and the tomb. I might include a mini city along the face if I go with a water waterfall, versus a lava one. Its still got issues and I would like some critique. THe head of the gil might be turned to face the city if my mood suits it. So here it is:

I'm paying for having too many ideas. lol

So I returned to work on the piece, and I gotta say the design while nice, I feel I want to try something different. For a few hours I threw around some ideas and I think I not too much caring for lava for either pieces. Waterfalls seem to give a few more design options. The first piece give more flexibility for lava than this new concept.

I work very erratically so in the midst of casual concepts will be heavy noodling of detail.

I present to you : Tomb raider: redux! I may go back to the original piece since I love the pose, but this one gives me a chance to go crazy on details. If the drawing gods are truly kind, I can come up with a rocking pose for the second one.

first pose is spot on, but you gotta add the tree on the left hand side in the sketch above aswell it will frame the scene perfectly, you have a great sketching technique :)

i love this angle. i think it would be even cooler though if it was an interior. she found some secret way inside the temple and up in the center there is the thing she is looking for... i think that would be way cool

Thanks everyone. I want to preserve the linework in this one since I am enjoying doing the fine detail.

lol, it looks like everyone likes the dynamic pose. I do too. I still like doing alternate versions. Doing environments is a rough challenge but the results are really something. With the busy schedule, I feeling things are slugging behind. It the risk doing detailed scenes. Well hopefully the direction won't blow up in my face. lol

@sarN in the original concept its was semi interior and other pieces I did, the interior design wasn't working to well for me. Lighting issues I think.

The left side needed some sort of balancing, I agree. I threw in some trees, but on a lower level.

I actually liked it when she was looking down in the valley. Now it almost looks like she doesn't even care about the magnificent view and the tomb that waits for her :) And I find the side-backside view of a head more aesthetically pleasing, but that's just me. But all in all nice work :dance:

@Valtteri I kept the original looking sketch because I had a feeling I was going to be using it. I am glad you liked it.

I removed the lines from the other layers so this is the pure line work that would show up in the final version. I faced her head to the site and changed her right arm. The left should also be changed soon. Added some more water linework.

Been to busy to work on it much. But I just got 15 mins free so decided to add a few lines and see where it goes from there.

Thanks for the all the comments. I always keep my layers incase i do on-the-fly changes. Still too much to do. I better get my ass in gear. Painting will be interesting especially with all of the foliage. I really want to keep the linwork since it just looks so damn fine.
