Actuelly i thought i would skip this competition, because when i try to make plants and so, they often turns out realy realy bad. And when you cant say jungle without plants, then theres my problem :)
But today i threw somthing toghter, that i think i will be able to make, with my knowledge.
Where i wanna go with this image, is to add some ladders, and maybe make a small relaxing area on the other side of the tree. As i want the tree to be a nice, and relaxing place to do some research or somthing.
here is 60 minutes of work:

Wow that technique is awesome. Should be nice and easy to unwrap as well! I'm glad ya decided to enter this competition! For the leaves on the trees I find alot of people unless using programs and like Vue and paint effects thend to use flat planes. Then they just texture leaves with an alpha map. I find this technique works great. As for your tree if your wanting to make it look realistic (which can be hard to do) one tip I have to to remember the Fibonacci numbers. Tree branches follow this pattern 1 (base), 1(branch), 2(2 branches), 3 (branches), 5(branches), 8(branches) etc.. When you start working on a branch you pretend this is the base to then it will split of into 2 then each of those branches will branch off into 3 etc..

Great detailing so far, very clever :)

@The_bromox Thank you, it means alot to me. will defneatly use your tips, they are a big help! :)
@chunkymunky Thank you for your kind words :)!
Will try model some more asap, but might first be able to work somthing out this weekends, as i`am quit booked up.

Nicely done, good well thought out meshes so far :)
As for leaves and foliage, I intend to use what default max offers. But for beauty render, I will use Vue. I hope my PC will survive that.

@ClassicGamer-3DT Thank you, means alot!
@JAPO Thanks for you tip, i do not own Vue yet, so i have to deal with it without that :) but i will try to use the 3ds max follige in further projects i make. But for this challange, i think im gonna model it my own, as i feel that you shouldent be judged on somthing, which is already pre-made :) But thanks! helps alot!
I have a small update for today. Worked 40 mins today, so its 60+40 =100 mins so far.
I`am not satisfied with the result of the tree, and i arentt finnish with it one aswell, just wanted to get the other things done, before i run out of time.
@the_bromox iŽam not sure if i did the thing you ment, but i tryed to add some more branches, and will defnatly make some more, where they hit the leafs.
07-04-2010, 10:14 PM
yeah according to the main branches you did it fine. Try it out sometime, look at a tree and remember the numbers I guarantee the tree will follow those rules 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13 .
07-04-2010, 10:33 PM
1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13...
Yeah, the_bromox is right though, i does work. It can be found in lots more places as well. Sunflower spirals, shells, ferns, so much in nature applies by this rule.
If you want to see something that works as well, look up the golden ratio or phi, very interesting stuff. (Well to me anyway)

Small update.. added another level, i`am planning on putting a telescope up there. Havent added any light or texture yet, so dont judge me on that :)
so far 165 min used.
Hope you like it

This looks really cool so far.
12-04-2010, 10:55 AM
I'm loving the tree house, it looks fantastic. is the tree a proxy, or the real tree you will be using?
12-04-2010, 04:11 PM
I did spend all the time now, and the last minutes went way to fast :)
So i tryed to finnish up all i had going, and unfortunately i had to throw away alot of my ideas. Especially did i want to model 2 sun chairs, on the lowest platform. And my tree did need some more work aswell. But im actelly quit happy about my result anyways. Here is some renders, will make a better clay render, with wires and beutyshot later on.
Let me hear what you think :)
12-04-2010, 04:15 PM
@EpiPlayer Thank you very much. Unfortunately will i have to use the tree, as i went out of time. Tho it was my plan to model a better one :) But i hope that some nice texture maps may improve it a little, to get a nice result on a beuty shot.
12-04-2010, 09:37 PM
It should be fine, you did great work on all the details too, and it shows where you took your time. I like it a lot.!
14-04-2010, 07:58 AM
Hi, nice work. Are you planning on using opacity maps on the hut materials. For example i wondered if the walls would be made of straw, sticks or something like that? Also i am sure that you can make the tree look a lot better with textures. Good effort
16-04-2010, 03:50 PM
How are you guys so fast?!
How did you make the effect for the walls of the hut?
Looks great so far : )
17-04-2010, 10:28 AM
@Andrewhall1234 Hi, and thank you. Yes it is my plan to use opacity maps, on my treehouse, so it will look a little more like plants, and not just a square:) Thanks for you interest
@Grumple Thank you, glad you like it :) The anwser for both your questions is alot of copying, and tweeking a little, so they dont look exact the same. I made the walls of the house by first making i leaf, then coping them out so they formed a nice straigt wall, and then i thres a noise modifer on them, to add some depth to it :)
21-04-2010, 09:15 PM
Finaly got some time to texture it. This is somthing i realy need to work at, as i get far from the result i have in my mind.
But thankfully aint this challange about texturing, but about the modeling part.
But here are my final entry. Goodluck to all!
21-04-2010, 09:18 PM
Here is a big beuty render of the house.
22-04-2010, 09:29 AM
Tell you what you should do is keep all the bumps used for your texturing and render your clays with them it will transform you clays even more :) Love that tree bark
22-04-2010, 09:37 AM
Thank you Chunkymunky. About the bump maps on the clay, i dont think that`s allowed, as we will be judged on the modeling part, and not the texturing part. And the clay render is where the judges can see the model, with no texture.
25-04-2010, 11:11 PM
Good work here! The texturing really punches this image out. Good luck :D
26-04-2010, 07:17 PM
Wee :). I love the style. Real cool with all that tiny stuff, reminds me of huge drawings me and my friends did when we were about ten. We made whole cities on those a3 papers, which we then linked together and waged active war upon (with various techniques)...
27-04-2010, 10:44 AM
Nice work. I really like the beauty render and the model is also excellent.
27-04-2010, 02:49 PM
Thank you guys, much apriciated
@Hulahuga - I`am happy that my model reminds you of the old days :) Actually back then, me and my freinds played the good old game "Age of Empire" where we draw the whole thing, we had a lot of fun with that :)
