Okay, well I am going to take part in this, but i already lost about 2 hours worth of work because Max decided that it didnt want to open a saved file. (jerk!) so here i am, beginning again from scratch.
The idea is this: You are trekking through the jungle and you come upon a small tunnel in a cliff face, which opens up into a small cave-like area with an old Altar to a forgotten god. I have some drawings but my scanner is being finicky. i hope i can post them here later.
edit- here is a 20 minute mark screen grab.

Can't really say much yet as it's still early days, but the description sound like it'll be an interesting scene :)

Okay, another update. I'm actually right at 1 hour 48 minutes total, and i need to get back to real work. here is the WIP pics. the green Altar is what i added in. (it wont really be green, i just made it that way so you could differentiate)

And here is where i was playing around with Max 2010's neat new viewport capabilities. this kinda shows you where im going better than the other ones did.

Sounds like a good idea, some good updates. Are those gradient ramps on the slabs on the floor or are the normals messed up? I think you could make some more blemishes on the temple, make it not so clean, if you know what i mean. It looks too new. I know it is early days and you may well have planned to do that. Did you try the 'auto backup' that max uses to re-open the work you did and lost. I think they save ever few minutes. Although i haven't used max for a while. Keep it up!!

Thanks for the comment! I'ts neither a gradient ramp nor messed up normals... its actually just a highly tiled copy of the previous update (the blue/green one) just because i could, really. the whole final hour, once i get a chance to work on it again will be working on destroying it a little bit, and grunging the place up. the next project, however, will be the details, tools, skulls, magical implements, and more vine things coming down the walls. I might throw some pillars up too, if i can dind a way to place them where they won't block the view.
unfortunately, this machine cannot render, so i'm stuck trying to make the viewport image looking as good as it can.
I found the problem with why MAX wouldnt open the file. i had saved it with hardware, soft shadows and ambient occlusion in the viewport, and for some reason, when i try to re-open it, my computer freaks out. I need a new rig for modelling.
