symmetery modifier

using th symmetery modifer. this is not just to model this box its fora coke can tutorial. ive used this as an example of the problem im having.

1.when trying to line up an object to weld. i would normally use snap to vertex or line and edge.

Problem is this snap function does not work while th symmetry modifie is on. so im guessing there is an accurate method to weld there symmetery

i don't know if you're supposed to line the object. you're supposed to line up the mirror of the symmetry modifier. press the "+" button next to the symmetry modifier, then move the mirror around.
