Saw the subject and this came to me in an inspired moment. I do plan on doing a few mods to the idea keeping the theme with Walt from Gran Torino mentoring an alien. I will change the car though never thought the Gran Torino was such a looker I plan on changing it out for a......to be announced. (although from the same time period.)I was waiting to get into a new challenge.

Thanks Paulis should be fun I felt inspired so I feel better about it. Anyways here are the two movie posters. If you are familiar with the plot of Gran torino I plan on using aliens to play the role like the Hmong Neighbors in the film. Gran Torino is an excellent film.

Well got started on the car. I am making a 1968 Plymouth Barracuda instead of the 73 Gran Torino hey my mashup my choice of car. That will do it for today. My movie will be called Cuda.

Yeah, your car was nicely done in the previous challenge. The car looks good now, but pay attention to the wireframe, it doesn't look that promising right now. I've seen gran torino, and it is a great film! I don't know if your mashup will work with this "match" coz i haven't seen Alien nation:D
Good luck!

Thanks i am in a very rough form now just blocking it out. Boxmodeling is not ideal for cars but it can yield decent results not on par with the top car modelers but as an asset it should be fine. I should be able to get it a bit better after 1 smoothing and more work on it.
Well I really liked Gran Torino also and I am basically changing it where the aliens from alien Nation move into Walter Kowalski's neighborhood. I actually never saw Alein Nation all the way through. The concept of it is that the aliens move to earth and are pretty much people that look odd with a few differences in culture etc. They are not violent or anything. Honstly as a culture clash i think the Hmong in Gran Torino have a more alien culture (to Walt) than the aliens from Alein Nation would have.

Really, there's some fast modellers in this forums, I like your car.

Thanks for the comments I like the car too although there are a few mods I made to it to make it a bit lower poly than being close to the original. The emblem on the side is from a different year barracuda but it is lower poly than going with a script written beveled word barracuda.
The car in the earlier challenge turned out decent but I planned on using a pre made model to finish it out so at the last minute I put together a fast toon model and it was sloppy so well this time I won't make that mistake.
More work seats and wheels tires mirrors emblems etc.

I guess but work will slow over the week have to take advantage of the weekend to get some work done. Bit more done got the steering wheel done and changed the color. I will probably move on to the next element.

Well i see a mountain of work to do to get this done characters rigging rendering composting and I do not have that much time during the week to get work done. Also if the weather is good on the weekends I might do something else so there is a big hill to climb yet. hammered out a basic alien for this more akin to a classic sci fi alien that to one in alien nation. basic volumes are hammered out here i will smooth the mesh to get more detail and work on those details to bring it up a notch. He will take the place of the young boy mentored by Walt in Gran torino.

The car is really cool, and he alien is nice, even if you won't have much time this week, you've already achieved a lot of work.

The last picture you posted of the car made me realize some mistakes. The main problem with the car, that you followed the concept badly.
For example: the at the front part of your car, above the lamps, there is a huge "wall" a really big part which is not aerodynamic. And the reason you made that mistake, is because you looked at the reference from the front part, and you saw, that there is a part this big above the lamp. But that is the problem with a 2d reference: it doesn't show, that the part above the lamp is a constantly rising piece of metal, and not a wall.
What i mean by that, is it doesn't reach that height in that instant above the lamp, it slowly goes up to that position, when finally, below the front glass it reaches that height.
You might have known this already, but then you should decrease the height above the lamp even more, and rise it slowly up till it reaches the front glass. (or improve it further more, by adding the arc, where the front part reaches its highest position before the front glass, and then it goes down to it)
The front glass's upper corners are too rounded.
The side glass's corners are all too rounded.
Actually, the whole model is too rounded: remove the mesh smooth modifier, and cut the model here and there, set the smoothing groups according to you reference, and then, add the mesh smooth (or whatever) and turn on smooth by smoothing groups)
Now, your car is made of one piece of metal. In the real world, cars are made up of little part, like the side doors, where you should have cuts on your model.
I think that you made the same mistakes on the back part of the car, like on the front. And you missed the back bumper i think :D
Sorry if i said something which you already know, i'm merely trying to help. I have some problem figuring out sentences in English, so if my sentences are arrogant, i'm sorry again :D
Basically, you have a solid start, and with some little more effort here and there, you could make a far more realistic car.
Good luck.

thanks for the crit. I have to work within my limitations so what I have works in that. My goal is to make a model that looks nice in the pic so I don't make details that will not be shown in the final. Also I have to keep the polygons down. Messiah 2.5 does not handle edges well and the smoothing is an older kind called metanurbs which has its own limitations. So I can't set edges hard or anything like that so i just bunch up edges and make it work as best I can. If I get some time I will work on the hood there but so many more assets to work up in limited time.
Last night did some more work on the alien dude there got him a bit refined more.

Found an hour or so to work on it did more work on the alien gave him some shorts and did a few morph targets for him so I can get his expression right.
Cordero I did take a look at the hood area there and it looks like it will be more work than anticipated so I will have to wait on it. Anyways everything will have a consistent if a bit odd look to it.

Started work on Walt. He is not turning out well but i blame that on just the my cruddy feeling stuffy and all i am not at my best. I will probably start him over.
gauravcg Actually I like him so far and it was just an opportunity to put Walt from Gran Torino with aliens. With the alien I am trying to go for the vibe of spider from Gran torino.

Don't know if I can finish. I did do a bit of work on Walt basically I was not happy with his body so I took the alien body and changed the proportions a bit and grafted Walt's head on it and then attached new hands to it. Not a lot of time to work on it with the weather so nice I do not want to spend my time in front of my PC.
