Heya,

Toko me a few days and some hours of thinking and I finally came up with something.

Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy & Star Wars

I dont really have have concept art, I just started modeling and tried if I could Marvin look like a Storm Trooper. I'm happy with the result so here's my entry:

Updates: Deformed the Body to let him look a little fatter, redone the belt to match the new body and I've done a pair of arms but im not sure if I'm going to keep those.

Thx, fixed. This is the ref im using Here (http://hitchhikers.movies.go.com/downloads/h2g21024x768b.jpg) and I think this is good enough. I'm not trying to make it as close as posible, just a nice mix between a Storm Trooper and Marvin.

Done more changes in the proportions, I made the lower-body a bit longer so I could get the arms closer to their real proportion. Did Gradient on the Material too. Might be my last post for today.

awesome rendition of Marvin the Manically Depressed Stormtrooper. I would bring his head a bit farther forward and let it droop down more, also I would lower the shoulders to look like they are slumped more, really bring out the depressed side of him... and had him just dragging his blaster.

I can just here him groaning as he trudges along muttering things like, "brain the side of a planet, and all they ask is that i go and get the guys on the Aluminum Sparrow and ask them if they want to have drinks with Darth Beeblebrox. Marvin, check on Princess Trillion in the cell block, Marvin get the mice some more cheese, oh Force I'm so depressed. And me with a pain all down my left armor joints."

Looking good! I would however add a stoop and push out the stomach (think slouch) drop the shoulders etc.

About the stoop, I'm not sure about that, I'm going to try but I dont think its going to work. As you saw on my list I'm going to make him even fatter so that might do the trick as well.

I'm off tomorrow so changes might be done tomorrow evening/night but I'm not sure when I'm back.

Ahh that is such a clever mix to have him as a stormtrooper :) Modelling looks clean and well thought out. Brilliant progression so far.

Its a bit annoying that I only have short periods of time to work on this I'm waiting on a longer one so I can take my time on the hands and blaster.

I did some of the changes, only things to do now are:
-Hands
-Blaster

(Edit) Ok the picture is all fixed now. For the people who are interested:

Render
The orthographic render was done in 1 Min 5 Seconds. The normal front and back render is done in 1 Min 2 Sec's, this takes proportionally longer because of the soft-shadows.

Setup
A simple Studio HDRI with Global Illumination is doing the general lighting. 1 Direct light is added for a brighter image and some nice shadow (128 samples and a 5 degree spread-angle for a nice soft shadow).

A gradient background wich is not affecting the objects rendered, and a shadow-catcher for the shadows.

Everything done in Modo 401 rendered with Modo's default render, doesn't have a name but works similar as FPrime in Lightwave and Vray that I used 2 years ago for Max 8.

Yes it is, I mixed up a stormtrooper blaster from StarWars and Point-Of-View-Gun from the other one to come up with this design, I'm not happy with the result but I have to go on with the rest of the idea.

And no he wont. I have something else in mind with the 2 heads.

As you can see on the pics I almost finished Darth Vader and made a nice group-photo. Its seems that dragging the gun pose doesn't really work in groups.

The scene will come, and yes the weapons dont look great, as the Eye's of Darth Vader. Its pixelated my AA-settings are high enough so I'm not sure what's causing that.

There you go, this is just a test. I liked the idea so I made a simple setup. Chouch was done in 10 mins. I took me 20 mins to get the hair good and it still took ages to render (10 mins).

I think you've done really well with the hair on this, it look thicker now and parts better at the tops on the armrests, I think that the cushions need some work, especially the colouring, i'm not sure the black works completely, but still it's really great :)

I've tried some colors but black/grey where the best. Brown also worked but then the pic had no other color's in it. So thats why's I used black. I've you think any other color's will look good, put them in here I'll render them out.

The underside of the couch still had the corners visible that's because I didn't want the hairs at the bottom stick trough the ground plane. I fixed that with a weight map controlling fur length. Ill put it in here if I'm back on my machine again, which probably be tomorrow.

Sorry for the lack of updates, this project is not forgotten I'm just very busy with lots of other things like finishing my current exams and preparing for The Dutch Film Academy that I'm going to next year.

I will finish this entry just give me some time to finish the rest first.
