View Full Version : Week #5 - British Telephone Box - Low Poly

Hi All,

This set isn't as comprehensive as it could be but I'm sure you guys can improvise a bit where needed.

You are required to make the phone box and the phone inside.

The limits for this week are 1,500 tris and 1024 texture sheet - any textures are cool, normals, specs etc to make it look as near to the photo as possible! As this is how they will be judged

Here is the photo set (http://freetextures.3dtotal.com/index.php?iset=1332&pp=)

Please post your wire, clay, texture sheets and final render in this thread, wip and on topic chat is also fine here too, these challenges are supposed to be fun and we are not too strict on the rules. The only prizes are a gold, silver and bronze award handed out to both high and low poly versions each week. http://forums.3dtotal.com/picture.php?albumid=1291&pictureid=10526http://forums.3dtotal.com/picture.php?albumid=1291&pictureid=10525http://forums.3dtotal.com/picture.php?albumid=1291&pictureid=10524

Deadlines as always Midday GMT 1 week away, so this will be Thursday 1st July

Also please note that one of the reasons for these challenges is to help grow our free resource libraries, so the model donations at some point in the future when our system is ready would make us very happy and give a new dimension to the free image library we are building up every week.

New to the challenges here, thought I'd give this one a shot.

Roughed out the booth and base of the phone. Will most likely add more detail to the booth with the leftover tri's once the phone is finished. 704 tri's total so far

bibhuti - Thanks for the reference pic of the back of the booth. I feel a little disadvantaged since I've never actually seen one of these in person. :lame:

I started, but put too much detail in. I think I'll have to bake the window frame parts into the normal. I still have the phone to model too.

Finished the phone, and smoothed out some parts of the booth. Just need to add the textures now. Total tri's: 1248

Progress shot so far.

Lowpoly booth is done.
High poly booth is almost finished, I struggle a bit with the crown but I'll get it done somehow.
interior is yet to be started.

Hopefully I can contribute with some competition but everyone's booths looks so good :[

I'm tempted but, I just entered the movie-mashup last week and need some catching up to do. I'll know for sure on Monday if I have time for this challenge.

Really nice entry Ints :)

I am finished with the modeling now, struggling with the textures now. There seems to be a glitch with photoshop brushes which makes it paint somewhere else on the canvas than I am painting :S

Really weird.

I'm hoping I have the time to enter this one. Nice subject.

Try restarting your computer, I think it's a problem with wacom drivers. Used to happen to me a lot on an old computer, really annoying.

I have a Trust though :p

I emailed Adobe about it and they said to update my (graphic) drivers, seems to work fine now.

I might still drop out of this week's challenge though. Too many texturing problems, my hand painted texture looks nothing like the reference (not to mention that it looks like something a dog puked up), my normals got screwed up and I don't seem to be able to bake something that looks even decent and I originally planned to texture it with Blender's texture paint function but I just realized that I have no idea how to do that in 2.5 and there are no tutorials about it anywhere :wall:

So yeah, everything that could possibly go wrong has gone wrong :lame:

You should post what you made anyway, I think.

Wow, that's beautiful. Really great job Doyora :)

And ok, I can post my high-poly render I guess.
As you can see I wanted to model everything out and then bake the textures based on that. I wasn't smart enough to cube unwrap it like you guys did either :p Ah well, just forget it, I may finish it one of these days. Good luck to everyone that participated :)

Times up people!! Very well done to all who completed. We will review the entries and post the winners later on this afternoon.

We will have another challenge very soon too, Rad is off sick so a slight delay in uploading the next batch into the library but it has some good sets in it and we will announce another challenge as soon as we can!

Thanks

Tom

Wow, having trouble choosing the winners this time! I have asked BigToe to step in and help as he is our resident expert on such matters :) Hopefully he will post later.

Congrats indeed, really great to see these mini comps serving their purpose of learning and fun, and maybe some model donations for our free library in the future. Thanks also to BT for the judging.

Will try to get another one up soon next week.
