Well all. I like this way to make wood, because it is nice an easy to do. Firstly, you have to start doing these steps :p
1) Make a new Canvas: 2048 x 2048 (or smaller in the same measurement ratio. e.g: 1024 x 1024)
2) Press "D" to reset colours and then choose 'D89013' for your colour. (you may want a different colour, but this is the one that I will use...)
3) Press 'Alt+Backspace' to fill the canvas with that colour.
4) Go To: Filter> Noise> Ad Noise: And enter this number: 50 and be sure to have 'Gaussian' and 'Monochromatic' Checked.
5) Go To Filter> Blur> Motion Blur: and enter 999 for the number. and angle '0'.
6) Press 'Ctrl+F' TEN times to get the effect to continue through.
7) Go To Filter> Other> Offset: and enter the exact half of your image dimentions in both boxes. e.g: 1024 Hor, and 1024 ver for the one that I am making...have 'wrap around' checked and click "OK" or press enter, whichever floats ya boat :p.
8) "Painting up the seam" We now need to make a Selection (press M) and select in the left part of the image more than 200 pixels to the right of the canvas border and 200 away drom the seam so that the selection is well inside both. (if you can understand that...)
9) Now feather the selection by 100 Pixels and press "Ctrl+C"
10) Press Ctrl+V and then press Ctrl and move the mouse to the right pressing the Shift key as it moves. Place this directly over the seam. this should cover the seam up nicely, giving some small smooth change in the texture.
11) Now Press "Ctrl+E" and the pasted layer should merge down onto the first.
12) Make an Eliptical Selection about 500X300 Pixels big then feather by 50 Pixels. Go to: Filter> distort> Wave: and enter the following:
Generators: 20
Wavelength: 188 min and 244 max
Amplitude: 20 min and 85 max
Scale 100 and 100
Press OK (ps, you may want to press the randomize number a few times if big rounded blobs appear on the preview image)
You can do this a couple of times to your wood if you want, to get the knotted effect.
13) Go to Filter> Blur> Gassian Blur: and enter: 1.5: Then go to Filter> offset and your last settings should still be there. Press ok if this is the case, and re-enter them if it is not the case...:p You should now have a nice tiling texture...
Plz tell me if this helps. I shall write a picture tutorial and post it on my site of this sometime...
Any additions such as chips, different colour(s), and scratches/mars, will do a nice addition to this texture for 2d and 3d purposes.
