You must be working in mechanic engineering :D (or you'd made studies of this subject). I love the realism you're putting in this scene !
I don't understand the use of 2 pistons for the end arm... the top one is enough i think.

02-02-2011, 07:03 AM
nice modeling you have there :) . i like the functionalitie, but i agrea with JoeLaFrite007 about the use of two rows of pistons, and disagrea about the top one to be enough. i'd say lower ones are enpugh cause in real life enginiers wont put them in to cause the forses that pistons should handle are way bigger on top of the mechanism than i lower part. and the second point it would require quite good timing and aditional electronics to sinchronise these pistons so they would'nt fight with each other when working. so i'd advise you to put bigger pistons in the bottom and if you want more details and more parts in top so put some guns for god's sake :D . guns allways look cool and gives you more points for your work :) .
good luck on this one.

The foot looks solid. But I don't think it can move around realistically with the ball-joint alone. You might wanna add a few more pistons around it to give it power, maybe 3 or 4 pistons.
EDIT: I watched the video. I have to say the rig looks really good indeed. Everything looks properly in place.

04-02-2011, 08:47 PM
lol yeah i will do one for ya soon def, basically the pistons are all "look at constraints" and everything is linked correctly and pivot points set correctly then if all setup right when you rotate a piece everything else follows and pistons do the job on there own. simple lol
Such a wonderful structure for just a couple of, big, guns?
Naaah, it deserves something more elaborate.
My suggestion is to look for inspiration to the top structure
of one of those Russian Cold War battlecruiser (es. Kirov class).
Keep up the good work!
P.S. six legs, arranged along a circular pattern.

Just watched the video for the foot rig and can't wait to see the tutorial for the rigging. I'm just completely stumped as to how you got the wires/pipes on the foot to move/deform like that.
Really awesome work man and hope you come up with a brilliant body design, unfortunately can't give any ideas.

thanks for that folktrollish that's really nice i like it ,i might do a version like that as well again thanks for that i didn't really expect anyone to do it , its the body structure where i am having design problems,i want it really mechanical similar to to legs (moving parts more pistons ,hose's etc ) maybe i am trying to hard on it and i need to think more simple but i think anything else and the legs would look out of place i dunno :wall::wall::wall::wall: these are the problems when you design things as you go along (now i am stuck wanna finish this )

well its a simple hose primitive /bound to objects (say two boxes) top and bottom then move top object and watch the hose follow!! magic. if ya still stuck shout me and ill make a quick vid to show ya

cool progress :). its starting to look like the spider robot from the movei wild wild west :). as for leg rig - nice. but does it have ik system, ik/fk blend, and so on. and some atribute holders to ceep some animation presets of the fut to make work faster? cause it would be a pain to animate it part by part. it would look realy awsome if the other parts would move along. like when its leg bends the other parts rotates coresponding to it. :) . but it doesnt change the fact that it looks realy cool :)
good luck . will ceep an eye on this one.

yes it will have a hi solver for ease of animation and i will set up some sliders as well at the moment im having a slight problem when i apply the hi solver it defroms the mesh slighty when i rotate even when i have rotation locks on im just trying to get over that then illcarry on modeling again

for rigid, unskinned geometry no , that's not a lot - it depends hugely on context though.
it could be more efficient as a mesh mind..
needse
22-07-2011, 11:30 PM
poopipe yeah still im working on me mesh efficiency not used to low poly stuff. ive got the mesh down to around 12000 now whilst keeping the shape but the sails need to be animated as well now so will have to put a few more back in again :wall:

blood smeared foot prints and smeared hand prints might look good on the street and walls.
I like the modeling. Hey,have you tried using the unwrap in Zbrush? It puts hours of potential unwrapping and turns it into minutes of work.
Keep it up.

I've been doing 3d for about 5 years on and off and im 100% self taught as well so maybe its taken me longer than it should of i don't know. the hardest thing has been making money out of it, but if you enjoy it like i do then the money doesn't matter to much :haha:

modeling looks nice, but where did you find sucha a terrible phone?? it has a body of blackberry and a monitor from old ohilips diga :D . you could hammer nails in the wall with this gadget :D .
and i agrea with lebaje - where did all heavy machinery go??
i would say you need to move to the forest where you didnt have to worie about any bills and when you are hungrey - go hunt some rabbits or squirrels and create all sorts of bad ass models of super uber tanks . as for electricitie - if i am not wrong - 30 hamsters, 2 bears and a big weal can produce some nice amount of power for your pc. be a macho- think about it - all chicks like tarzan and you would be a sci-fi one :D .

MStandar
14-09-2011, 09:23 PM
Looking very clean, and you have a ton of details on this one.
The mesh looks pretty dens, especialy in the button areas. those wires are smoothed right? What kind of smoothong do you use, because it would be nice to see how you tackled those areas when its not smoothed, or if you use turbosmooth you could turn on isoline display. it would then be easier to look at it :)
But modelling wise i have not found anything to critic on yet.
paulius-st
15-09-2011, 10:41 PM
these printers do look great when you model them, but you know - printers, phones, arch-viz, bmw's and MB's cars, house hold gadgets and so on.... are soooo borring .here is a picture to ceep this thread awesome level at decent stage here. :) .
but to be more serious - cool modeling you have here. ceep it up and i hope to see some "manly stuff" soon :) .
