travelling tomorrow on a business trip until friday. I've managed to put a twist into my presentation - and that visual thing in my mind needs to come to life.
It's basically the way people are achieving their goals, or trying to anyway.
I'm looking for a picture, or a quick way to accomplish this via CG
3 rocks
loads of little rocks above it (represented by circles)
sand above the little rocks (represented by sprayed dots)
I would prefer this to be doable in CG and i see this as something done - problem is i need this done tonight, since i'm travelling in 10 hours (6 hour drive after that so needed sleep)
I've drawn a sketch to make it more clear of the vision. I've also heard that v-ray has some interesting already made textures of stone, rock etc. Not necessary but just throwing out a thought
Any ideas, suggestions, t&t

i understand that this is something like a cut of the ground???
if its the case then create a plane or box (doesnt matter - you'll need only one side ), than do some boxes or spheres that represent the 3 bid stones and other little one. for little one make a set of 3 rocks. than go to zbrush and quickly sculpt them rocks. than quick uv's or if you dont want to waste time no uv's. than generate displacement maps and normal maps and difuse maps. than import your plane or box to zbrussh and use aplpha from pixologic website or from other sourse you have. you'll need only a image of sand. than drag this alpha with mrgb and zadd on this tool and generate disp, normal, difuse maps. than back to max and build your scene. put these rocks on to the plane so they intersect and in final image look like the rocks are in sand. aply all your maps and render.
maybe i missed something but you're a clever man and get the ide :) .
and if you dont have zbrush you can displace these rocks in max usng settings. dont remember how to but i remember a tutorial in max help showing it. as for sand a simple noise would do or other texture.
good luck . hope it helps

no z-brush, and still weak to be fast in mudbox. i can always add noise mod to a primitive, but it may not look like a proper stone. gonna look for a way to make maps, perhaps crazybump or similar...

its simple there
all three rocks are as one object and have one map. "nmf" is normal map, "dm" is displacement map, than there are two thers that are difuse and bump maps. then there is 4.obj with is rocks. :)
