Deadline extension - Monday 18th April 12.00 midday GMT

Challenge Brief
You're invited to create a mock movie poster for a film entitled 'Atomhawk'. The film can be any genre (except pornographic), set in any time period and location.
The finished artwork should adhere to the standard movie poster ratio of 27w 40h. Actual dimensions are up to you, but please make it large enough to judge! Aim for over 1280 pixels as the winning entries may be printed.
Feel free to include some typography as well, such as the title, tagline, you can even put in a billing block if you want. Above all, be creative!
Things to think about:
Your artwork will be better if you put some thought into the plot of the movie you're portraying and also the style of the artwork and the composition of the poster. Most movie posters try to encapsulate what the general theme and story of the film is.
• Think about the style of the poster, is it a classic character/action montage (Indianna Jones, Star Wars) or is it to be a more contemporary approach featuring more of a key moment in the film, for example the posters from 300, Gladiator etc.
• Who are the stars of the film? What kind of costumes do they wear?
• Where is the film set? What kind of atmosphere would the film have?
• What role does the word Atomhawk play in the film? Is it a character? An organisation? A weapon...or something else?
The prize list
We’ve got a 2D category and a 3D category, both with exceptional prize lists which includes the following:
2D Category
• 1st place – Wacom Intuos4 L, £100* 3DTotal shop voucher, a copy of The Art of Atomhawk Design: Volume 1, and an Atomhawk t-shirt.
• 2nd place – Wacom Intuos4 Wireless, a copy of The Art of Atomhawk Design: Volume 1, and an Atomhawk t-shirt.
• 3rd place – Wacom Intuos4 M, a copy of The Art of Atomhawk Design: Volume 1, and an Atomhawk t-shirt.
3D Category
• 1st place – Wacom Intuos4 L, £100* 3DTotal shop voucher, a copy of The Art of Atomhawk Design: Volume 1, and an Atomhawk t-shirt.
• 2nd place – Wacom Intuos4 Wireless, a copy of The Art of Atomhawk Design: Volume 1, and an Atomhawk t-shirt.
• 3rd place – Wacom Intuos4 M, a copy of The Art of Atomhawk Design: Volume 1, and an Atomhawk t-shirt.
(* to include shipping).
Challenge rules:
1. All artwork must be your own original designs. Where applicable, fonts must be credited to their creators.
2. All artwork must be created specifically for this project, Pre-made photo clip art is not allowed.
3. Individual entries only, no team-work.
4. At least 1 additional image must also be submitted showing the workings of your image, for example, a wire frame, steps of a 2d painting, or the photos of a matte painting. You must try to make it clear to the judges how your image was created.
5. All entries must be submitted to the final entries thread by Midnight GMT Friday April 15th 2011.
6. Initial judging will be carried out by 3DTotal staff and moderators to select the best 10 for each category. At this point Atomhawk will come on board to select the prize winners for each category.
7. The winners will be notified by email, and the results published shortly after.
Submitting your artwork:
Please make your own wip thread in this forum and use the naming convention "ATOMHAWK – 2D or 3D (delete as appropriate to show which category you’re entering) - YOUR IMAGE TITLE - YOUR FORUM NAME"

And there she goes!
How much are you allowed to combine 2d and 3d as this is a movie poster where it might thus be a huge amount of work to make it all into a 3d scene...?

I Just wanted to say sorry about the clash with the upcoming DW5 but we are locked in on the dates with our comp and the sponsors so we have to launch now. Ours is only for 1 month and differs somewhat so hopefully there will be room for everyone and both comps to run along side each other, I have spoken with BigToe and Fred and all is cool.

Good question! if you are entering 3d at least 50% should be 3d, and the main elements (like a character for example should be 3d) but it's cool with lesser elements and the BG being 2d.

Heads up Tom, outsiders will be frightened if you show yourself online and DEFINITELY if you replt to them directly... instead they will feel much more secure if you leave the office immediately and leave your staff to fend for themselves in an Amazonian jungle like mud competition.
After 2 weeks of this internal war the victory will be the last man/woman standing at which time of course, is the point you return, claiming back the throne and we all praise you with love and joy.

Atomhawk is a company name if I'm right. Then it us to the artist to decide what that actually means in their art :). Atom is well atom and hawk is well the hawk, so the word itself is mix of the two, probably to spice it up a little...
Hope this helps!

I'm sorry Tom, I give you my apology. I was mostfully making a finding about the general state of things, and whining because sometimes I got bad manners and because I'm just sad to see on this side a lot of good workpower while on the other side it seems to be the last war... But hey, everybody has to make personal decisions.
I do not blame anyone or any modos for that.
You're not responsible for the synchro, & thanks for the comp'!
Maybe I'll participate to this one too, I'm not 100% sure yet.
I really had difficulties to understand the brief, I've understood that it's about Atomhawk into a movie. I know Atomhawk is a CG studio.
My questions are, how can I represent that into a movie?
Should I invent some kind of movie (representation) or refer to an existing one?

I need to know plz. the brief says that your composition should be standard poster size... is that like a standard A3 poster? what dimension would be ideal???
The finished artwork should adhere to the standard movie poster ratio of 27w 40h. Actual dimensions are up to you, but please make it large enough to judge! Aim for over 1280 pixels as the winning entries may be printed.
27 x 40 inches (69 x 102 cm)
Movie Poster Types and sizes... goggled it.
Common sizes of small posters are 14"x22", 14"x36", 22"x28". These are the type you might find at smaller displays.
The larger posters are 27"x41" in a vertical format, this is the most common style of American movie poster. Larger vertical format poster, measuring 41"x81" up to 81"x81".

Suggestion: the entry submission thread should be formatted so it could actually be viewed without extreme zooming out and high loading times.
- A small preview of the poster 800x570
- Wip image preview 800x570
- A link for the highres image
- A link for the wip image
- Original wip thread
Hope this helps!:haha:

Big thanks for the deadline extension ..... For the ones who have submitted, think you can work on your art ... and edit your post in the final entries thread before the deadline ......
Okay, so now when only few days has left, I am starting to work on this project. I guess that is a tradition for all the russian artists. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Deadline extended - cool. I might try to do both 2d and 3d. But I think I will do 2d first.
I had an image in my head for this one for a few weeks now. Therefore I need only to draw it. ~~
I am excited.

Did u use the attachment ? if so it should appear straight away. If u are using web host did u type the correct link ? It need to start with the img code web link

since Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is the same all year around; there is no Summer Time / Daylight Saving Time - we're running on UK time for the deadline - meaning there's another 1.5 hours until it's over and done with??
by GMT it would be 2.5 hours :)

I totally forgot that the winner posters would be printed. I don't think I'm in the podium with such great jobs submited but I like to do things right. I want to kill myself :) (my final image is 72 dpi)
Anyway, would the 10 selected by 3dtotal staff be announced? any idea of how long the judgement will take?

I dont think its going to be an issue .... If you win, 3DTotal staff will ask you for the highrez image via an E-Mail .... so you can give then. And if you have a link to the highrez image .... just simply edit the post to insert that link ... No problem man !!!!!

I just found that 3dtotal word is forbidden in cgsociety forum, maybe thats why my work was rejected in first place.
