Thanks guys, so far I'm just getting warmed up. I figure I'll bust out a couple pages of concepts and see what jumps out at me.

Figuring out how to make something look massive with out any environmental cues is going to be pretty complicated.

I don't know if u know this or not, buuut I'm gonna write it anyway, coz it can't hurt anybody:
If u scale down the head, it will instantly give the feel of a giant, without any environment! Like the bottom left dude.

Yeah the quadraped is nice, but the one coming out of the water is cool, but because of the theme you game him with the buildings coming out of him and stuff.

I'm back and with brand spanking new computer Hazzah! There are more details on this but I didn't come here to draw ****, will post some different weapons later. Going to get my sculpt on.

well, first allow me to say, they all do look nice, and anyone would be lucky to have a chance to just hold one. BUT, none of those weapons fit the style of your last character sketch. So you either need to redesign your character, or add testicles to your weapon.

Liking the character design (especially with the 2 eyeballs poking out of the helmet!), but I agree with ToE that the weapons don't quite fit. Particularly the hammer seems too heavy for your characters arm.

I like using the polearm though. Maybe he doesn't need a gigantic menacing weapon to wage war, maybe it's just a simple staff.

@Puck, ya I think your right about the weapon. Need to find something that will convey a certain amount of nobility for him.

Quick go at some armor detail, not sure if I will use it or not. These would be circle things on the sketch.

Like it man, nice style, like the head part. If it's for the armor part, maybe integrate it a bit more.

Blocking in some armor, might do a different arm guard on the other side to break up the symmetry on this.

..and a shader test, trying to get a metal to look right is semi complicated with shaders. Having specular highlights on top of reflections is not good a good thing.

What I wanted to say, it's: head/nail/hammer.

Hope your metal shader test are going well, last skull test is already some nice result.
I think the reflection is important, there is some blur in, but the white tones on it have to pop out a lot (light source in general), so I think the specular depends of reflection in this case, even if I'm not 100% sure.
Also think the reflexion varies a bit depending on the light impact/incidence.
There is some crazy knight in animation movie "Chasseur de dragon" (in french sorry) => Dragon hunter
and the metal there sparkles really well, glimmering.

@washka, looks cool but I doubt the used real time shaders, which is kinda of the hard part when it comes to complex reflections.

I changed the armor so many times it's not even funny and in the end came back to what I started with. Detailing pre zbrush pass.

So you've choosen the staff spear, last time I was thinking about an hammer or something like that because head part is some kind of stake/nail for me, but now that I'm thinking about an hammer it would imo, in a certain way, go against the concept (King).

You could have integrated crown to the stake, but it could become quite unreadable.

Really like the idea in your concept, quite brillant, and with crown just there it's very telling, I would have tried to use the weapon to emphasize even more the main idea or with another accesorie, the back part of an hammer won't fit either... a pliers nor. What's the opposite of an hammer?

Awesome dude! I like your color use, alltho the metal is looking pretty flat to me. You should add some more details on that and give it a little more contrast. But I'm curious how it will turn out with the spec. map onto it.
