Just reserving for now.
There's not much backstory yet but this is what I got:

Lady Planck, The Temporal Goddess: Once a Horologist of some renown. The concept of time intrigued her so much she decided to dedicate her life to studying it, eventually joining the Time Mages.

After years of studying the manipulation of ''The Flow of Time'' the Time Mages decided to try and manipulate the arrow of time through the use of artifacts.
Miss Planck, fearing the paradoxes and instability this would bring to the Universe stole the artifacts and then became like super powerful or something and gained almost complete control of time.

Who cares about backstory anyway! I Will work the rest out when I got ''time'' :P

First time I'm entering a contest. I wasn't planning on joining at first but what have I got to lose hunh? Besides eternal humiliation and shame that is. :haha:
I've never really drawn a character before I started modelling so I might start with that since most people seem to start that way. Follow the herd!

Good luck to everyone!

So yeah this is what I got so far. I tried to put lots of arrows, gears and clocks on her armor but I have to put a threedy logo somewhere as well right?

I considered giving her a Clockhand sword or something but maybe that's a little too Kingdom Heartish.

I guess she doesn't really stand out yet but... I might just throw colours on her anyway and see where I go from there.

Cheers

Horology aye? Sounds like a decent idea. Don't be afraid to go stylized with it [a-la kingdom hearts] if that's what you find works with the concept, and the direction you want to go. Truthfully tho I think you could make a pretty wicked and realistic looking sword if you pick the clock hand if you want to stay hyper real instead. Just google clock hands, you'll find plenty to use as a starting point.

Glad you decided to join. Don't worry, the only shame in entering, is not finishing. Good luck.

Heya quick update,

Just drew some swords, these 4 were my favorites. Still not sure on what kind of weapon I should give her. I might add a shield or give her a staff or something.

<a href="http://s1107.photobucket.com/albums/h397/Bjorn_Dingeldein/?action=view&amp;current=SwordDesigns.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h397/Bjorn_Dingeldein/SwordDesigns.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I guess I could also give her a wand or a mace or something or maybe even no weapon at all. When I find the time I'll draw some more, though I kinda want to get the drawing part over with, It's not excactly my strongest point. :P

Good day and good luck to everyone participating in the war!

Those are some cool looking ideas for swords. I like the pointedness of the 4th and the asymmetry of the third. Something really nice nice might lie between the two. Also, the elegance of them I think suits the "goddess" idea.

I am!

Nope you aren't. See the fake rules:

-If you join two or three categories, they must all belong to the same team. Example, if you join 3dtotal for 3d character art, you cannot make a 2d or animation entry for team GameArtisans.
-Anyone may join Dominance War V - The Rise of Gods, except innocent people (that just concern threedy forums).
-This is a wip (work in progress) based challenge. Posting your w.i.p art in your chosen forum is ABSOLUTLY MANDATORY. Artists who show no work till the end may be disqualified.

really like the idea and story behind this charavter :) really play with ideas on how she can control time, and moreover how she could use time as a weapon. can she use time to instantly age people to such an extent that they become ashes and dust? reduce tanks and weapons to lumps of rust... be very cool to see a focus on time as the weapon. good luck!

Yeah I'm working on it. I've been thinking of some awesome skills I can give her but trying to avoid making her too ''almighty'' because that's no fun. :haha:

Her powers will mostly be speeding up and slowing down time in small area's, this might sound weaker than slowing down time all around her but this allows for much greater control (In a war, allies and enemies are likely to be bunched up together and this way she can speed up time around herself and her allies and slow it down around her adversaries.)

Time traveling is impossible and might be a little overpowered but maybe she can like ''record'' time and when she loses an arm or gets badly wounded she could rewind it a little to recover.

I'll play around with her back story as well when I find the time between schoolwork and other personal projects but right now my main priority is actually making her. :P But don't worry if everything goes well I'll give her a great backstory with an awesome skillset. If you have any ideas though I would love to hear them!

Thanks for taking the time to look at my thread everyone!

Yeah it isn't any fun having a god that can beat all gods then why would there be any war at all? Some are still doing the uber powerful gods though and I had an idea for one but it would have ended up looking something like this (http://www.jinx.com/content/Extreme/products/iwin_thumb.jpg)

Loving your concept though and as far as the sword goes I like 4 and 2. 4 because it looks like it is from a clock, 2 for the design aspect just looks cool.

Alright,

I went ahead and started working on the legs (Even though the concept isnt quite finished she still has a Human body so it should be fine, also I was aching to start modelling something.)

Now I don't have a lot of experience at all and even less with organic modelling so some help would be appreciated. I'm not quite sure about the knees as I have never really rigged something before and I have no idea how to go about making joints and stuff. I also get the feeling it missing ''form'' or ''definition'' or something like that.

<a href="http://s1107.photobucket.com/albums/h397/Bjorn_Dingeldein/?action=view&amp;current=Legstart.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h397/Bjorn_Dingeldein/Legstart.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

This is what I got. The knees are obviously not going to work. Maybe I should make more edge loops there or something. I just hope I can learn all this stuff fast enough before the war has ended.

Again, thanks for taking the time to read my humble thread and feel free to comment! :haha:

Well the obvious question is are you working on a base mesh that you will be sculpting on in zbrush or mudbox? If you are then this mesh is a good start and you should worry too much about it so long as everything is good and square. I prefer to create a fairly simple base mesh to sculpt with then when I am happy I redo the entire mesh.

However if you don't plan on doing some sculpting I recommend taking an extreme amount of time and care in your modeling watching tutorials on organic modeling and experimenting until you have the right mesh for you.

No I don't plan on sculpting although I wish I was able to...

This whole thing really is kind of a gamble for me though because I haven't got a clue how this is going to turn out. I might spend most of my time redoing stuff and experimenting but thats what makes it fun I guess!

I am hunting for good tutorials for a while now... I might buy one if I can cough up the cash. If you have any recommendations that'd be great.

Cheers

I don't know what sites you have been to or anything like that but you might try this site which is great for low poly work. http://www.poopinmymouth.com/tutorial/tutorial.htm

Keep in mind though that you have 12.5k triangles to work with so you can loosen up and add extra polys and edge loops for added detail and probably be doing a bit better.

Hi ! Cool idea !
But it looks like the Xelor characters in Ankama Wakfu game... no ?!

Hey they do kinda look alike!

Well they both have armor combined with a ''mummy'' look but I actually got that idea from some other reference images I have. But then again, the whole gears and arrow things are just the first things you think of when you think ''time''.

Actually, these might make good reference images themselves so if you don't mind me using them...

Hey man, great conceptual start.
I would say sword #4 has the best handle, but it'd be nice if you could work in some of the neat blade flares that 1 and 2 have.

Also, if you're looking for good tutorials, I recommend browsing through eat3d's stuff, they have some fantastic tutorials (for a price).

Also, I can't recommend this dvd (http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/store/product/153/Character-Modeling-for-Production) and this dvd (http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/store/product/155/Character-Texturing-for-Production) highly enough. You'll find they're a bit expensive, but I swear there's more information in these 2 dvds than you can get from 2 years of college.

Good luck, hope this helps!

Hey SnappedStrings thanks for the comment!

I will definitely check those tutorials out. Those two DVD's are awefully expensive though, but if they're really that good me and some friends could pool some money and buy it together.

Cheers!

Great concept, I think time is particularly valuable to those of us in the digital art industry. Seems like if there were just 8 or 12 more hours a day... I could get so much more gaming done.

Something cool I learned in a 'Philosophy of Religion' class is about the difference of eternal and everlasting. I got a C in that class, so I don't remember exactly how it worked, but it had something to do with God needing to exists in time in order to interact with people that exist in time. So all of his talking to Moses proves that he's everlasting, not eternal. Or maybe I have that backwards....

Anyway, I think you might be able to incorporate that as a limiting factor in your concept for this character. Does she exist inside time, or outside of it? Or can she jump in and out at will?

Well dayum,

I had so much school work lately I could hardly get anything done on this thing. To make matters worse I kinda got stuck already. I'm not sure if the polyflow is good and I am having trouble making the limbs look less like simple tubes as well.

http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h397/Bjorn_Dingeldein/Body.jpg

http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h397/Bjorn_Dingeldein/Body2.jpg

I just can't seem to get, you know, ''definition'' into the model. This whole model is probably not going to end up anywhere near the poly limit as well but that's worry for later I guess. Anyone got tips on how to make for instance the arm look like it actually got muscles?

Thanks everyone and good luck!
