Hey guys, here's my idea for Dom War V.
Just have an image board atm...working on concepts right now. Have a basic base mesh as well.

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww180/flakked/Dom%20War%20V/Future_Barbarian_Mood_Board.jpg

Going for a Barbarian/warrior character. Primarily winter themed armor. (Fur/leather) I originally was going to do some sort of prosthetic arm, but I don't think it'll fit well with the theme. Lots of Frazetta and Blizzard inspiration for this one!

yep yep Frazetta is the shizznit...pretty hard style to pull though ;) good luck

great image board and ref. Frazetta's stuff sure gives the gods at war and play feel :) really looking forward to what you do with this!

Very cool there guy. I'm digging the robot arms, and can't wait to see how you'll incorporate this high fantasy sort of look with the sci-fi stuffs.

hmm... I actually stuck to the rules and made my base mesh from scratch :P

I also made my base mesh from scratch for the competition, during Dom War...no pre-made meshes :D

Forgot to update these a while ago...

Here's one of the concepts

And here is the Base Mesh. Thinking maybe the head is too big? Trying to go for more Blizzard/Darksiders proportions. I'll probably beef him up even more in Zbrush. if necessary.

Here's a progress shot of my zbrush scuplt. Still gotta tweak a lot, plus haven't really touched the arms or face yet.

Transposed the arms for a better angle. Would like to call this done. Tried going for stylized anatomy with the sharp edges. Kinda happy with it for my first anatomy sculpt in zbrush. If you guys have any tips/suggestions, let me know! I'm not going to focus on the feet, hands and head, as they will be covered up in the end.

Looks mostly like you've got the muscle forms down. That's one enormous dude, something's not quite right, tho I can't really put my finger on it.

Can we get a couple full body ortho shots? May help suss out the problem.

Only things that really grabs me from these screens...
...you seem to have an extra indent in the latissimus dorsi.
...the posterior deltoid to trapezius transition is looking a little odd.
...you may have shoe-horned in an extra muscle on the outside the leg right beside the top part of the rectus femoris.

[I probably should have just scribbles over your image, I totally had to look the last name up.]

Thanks for the tips, and yeah he's a little beefy heh. Here are the orthos as requested. I started reworking the legs and back a bit.

Be careful about how he is developed muscularly. He looks like he can barely move with that sort of body. I suggest you check out pics of the really muscular guys and compares the size of the muscles relative to the size of the joints and most flexible body parts. It's not a matter of copying the muscles of the body but understanding how they fit and move on the body.

Yep, looks like you got that extra muscle out of the thigh, and I think you're on the right track with the lats now as well.

He's got a definite case of the short-legs. Its very common, and fortunately easily cured. I don't know which "standard" you were aiming for, so I "corrected" him to 8 heads as that was the easiest thing to do. Basically just stretch his legs down a bit and shift his hips up just a hair, and you'll be good to go there. After tweaking the legs, I found the arms to be about 7 - 10% shorter than I think they should be so I adjusted that as well.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w303/Warlock279/Mini%20Tutorials/Flakked-Proportions_01.jpg

For the shoulders, I think you're starting the deltoids to close to the neck. They should be a lot further out. You also seem to have the collar bone running at too steep of an angle. Unless he's shrugging his shoulders, the collar bone should run pretty much horizontal, until it takes a little angle up at the very end. The middle head of the deltoids starts right at the end of the collar bone, so the front and back heads of the delts, should be a little further in than that, but not too much. The trapezius from the back of the neck, more or less runs out to about the end of the collar bone, tho the last 1/3 or sp of it is more a knot of tendon than a bulging muscle.

I think mix_mash is right to an extent about the muscle mass, in some places it really does look a little over done, and like it would restrict his movement, so taking a look over some body builders photos might help with that. Also keep in mind, as he mentioned the joints, those are mostly just bone and tendon, the knee especially, so the leg really needs to taper in at the knee. Bodybuilders tend to have have massive quads then what look like ridiculously skinny knees because there's just muscle there to develop.

Speaking of the quad, the outer bit of it, I think is much too small in your latest images, I did a quick paint over of that, I'd recommend pushing it at least to the blue line, but the green line would work as well.

For the back of the leg, I think you've made the bulge in the top of the hamstring, a bit too pronounced, I'd try slimming that some.

Lastly, the abs, and I guess this is really up to, since you were liking the stylized elements you worked in, but that top "ab" the 7th/8th ones, actually wrap over the rib cage, so you're hard edge being above them, looks a little off.

I think if you get those things fixed, you'll be in pretty good shape over all.

Let's also not forget the neck! Give the guy some leeway to turn his head.

The armor is looking pretty good.

Only crit I've got for you right now is the finger, they need some loving. Gloves or not, they should have some more shape to them, some knuckle shape, some creases where the fingers bend, etc.

Well played with the chain, that chain link shape transitions to low poly really well. Keep it up.

thanks for the feedback, and yeah, the gloves are quite plain at the moment. Going into Zbrush detail once I finish the helmet.

It's going nice man! Have you got in mind any tundra deco, in form of more complements or texture?

Thanks! Ideally I'd like to have frost/ice on the armor. In terms of textures I'm going to aim for cooler tones to emphasize cold themes

hey dude, bakes are the basis of modern day gaming optimization. Essentially, they give a low poly base mesh the appearance of greater detail through lighting tricks. 3D Total has a lot of articles on them. here's one on Ambient occlusion: http://www.3dtotal.com/tutorial/3d_studio_max/fast_ambient_occlusion_mapping/fast_ambient_occlusion_mapping_01.php

and a wikipedia article on normal mapping: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_mapping
