hello,
First of all i would like to say hello, couse its my first post ever, on any of non-native (polish) forums about 3d graphics. In addition sorry if what i wrote its hard to read - english is not my mother language :)
I've decided to take a shot in dominance war. Not going to be easy - not gonna lie, its going to be my first gameart character ever, so i'm really hoping for your support and crits.

After few rough sketches and couple days of thinking i've came up with idea of goddess of deception.
After collecting some reference pictures, I ran across interesting article on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ace_of_spades (War header)
I've decided this theme would fit perfectly with my character so u'll see a lot of it in this topic :)

So here it is: THE GODDES OF DECEPTION:
The last moments of her victims life were always the same. They saw beautiful, enigmatic goddes, making a fake bow, shortly after which they've heard strechy noise, clash of a crossbow, whistle of a belt and finally they've encoutered terrible pain in their chests. Lucky ones perished immidately, those less lucky had realised with despair that despite the enormous belt stuck in their body and sternum crushed, they're still alive. She liked it that way. Then she drew a throwing knife from her hair and threw it at her victim's head with so much strenght that it easily pierced the skull. Such was their end. She was finishing the ritual by cuting the ace of spades on the breasts of dead victims. And with each engraved ace, her divine strenght grew.

So heres the rough concept of what i've got in my mind:

So as u can hopefully see, when she'll make a bow stance (arms go up, crossbow is stretching), her crossbow will be prepared to shoot. need to find a way how she can trigger it, but its not gonna be a problem i guess. Crossbow itself needs redesign. I want her first impression was not too dangerous, but when u look closely u can see the weapons hided all over the place. Sort of a sneaky assassin type.

Started modeling body and head, its close to finish i think:

Welcome aboard!

Concept sounds pretty cool. Model looks like its off to a good start. Head's a bit big tho, its making her look a bit like a child I reckon. Nice start, and good luck.

Nice 2D work there. The concept sort of reminds me of Queen Amidala from Star Wars but with much more attitude. Looking forward to seeing this develop

lookin good, but I think the gap between the breasts is too large.

Just curious, but how do you get the outline look on a selection of objects? In this case, it is the hat on her head.

I like the spades theme. It's a nice feminine shape and it fits her title as the Goddess of Deception. But try not to repeat it too much in her outfit. It comes off as a little too cheesy if you see it all over her body.

Really awesome helmet. I look forward to seeing that back piece with the ribbons modeled out.

Good job. I thinks you have some problems with proportion. The head seems to be too big, legs a bit too short(or maybe it seems like it because of the head), and hips are narrow.

Yeah I agree with Martin, proportions don't seem to be working, she feels like she's only a few feet tall.

I also find the purple overlay makes it more difficult to judge what you've got going on in your sculpt. I usually find it's best to try and keep all the bells and whistles turned off until your ready to present your final image, that way you're not tricking yourself early on and missing things you could work out.

I think you need to still look a bit at the proportions. I overlayed the "ideal" proportions for a woman onto your last picture. The top looks good, but as you gravitate down to the belly and legs it starts to scale down more than it should. I think with proportions more like the 'ideal' it would give a more powerful aspect to your character. hope this helps!
