Story (to be added):
Decided to join in on the fun and easter break is coming up so let's see where this takes us...
Okay so started out with some zpheres and went through some trouble getting the skinning right... Will probably redo this and and add some features in zsketch.
What do you think?

Haha, yeah, true :)
I am in the process of reworkin the zpheres, and i have also made a quick zketch, but it doesnt translate very well at all to the base mesh... :/ Any advce on the matter or should I just get it out high res and retop in maya?

Welcome to the party man.
The main thing to consider is how the topology is distributed, if it's pretty even over the whole thing then you can probably skip retopo'in and just work it in zbrush.

Glad you're joining man, gl, dig hands and legs. Dig backstory and base concept, it'll help the workflow.

Hey guys, thanks! :)
Deadlyfreeze - Yeah I know, what I actually wanted to do was to merge the head and throat with the chest segment as well as the neck as a sort of mutation...
So my initial file seems to crash ZBrush every time I try to start it so back from zero...
Remade base mesh in ZBrush which I am now in the process of remaking in Maya to get the head/neck/throat right. Will then take it into Mudbox, nail the proportions and explore the pose I have in mind (Washka, remember my idea about the god pulling the world?).

UPDATE:
Base mesh done - UV-mapped and ready for sculpting!
Btw the new "interactive split tool" in Maya 2012 is great! :), but even though this release seems very stable in general the GoZ mesh from zbrush managed to crash Maya 3-4 times...

nice progress, but i see lots of mistakes . what is this thing on his back? muscles? hunch back? ...? sory but i dont get the idea and function of this part. then the face - it looks like a brick crashed in to it. pay close atention to bone structure. to be more precise - cheack bone. then sides of his muoth - give it som evolume. part betvien upper lip and nose - this parts edges are too thick. nose - nostrils are too thick. especialy at the back .and about the biceps - arent they way too big? i know that this creature must be strong but better build a silhouette that forms a strong body than give a body some strong parts that looks akward and destroys the look of streangth by making it look like a freak.
sorry for harsh words - nothing personal, just constructive crits, but its better to make changes at the early stage that try fixing it latter.
good luck with this project .:)

Good critique, exactly what I am looking for :). Reworking now!
And yeah he is supposed to have enormous, mutated shoulders and arms, whole body in fact. He is not really human and I will show why soon...

i get it now but remeber that your design should work allso in real life , other way it wont look as good as you want. referencing real life is inevidible if you're seaking for a good design. just my 2 cents. i'll wait for updates :)

Hahahah! :haha:
So final update before I go to bed... Will also head to my country home for a couple of days, so 'til I'm back no more sculpting updates :/, but I will continue brainstorming designs and ideas and perhaps finally write down the story! :)
Would love to hear more on what you think!

Like the hands, but I'm not sure I would apply same kind of design to foot. Keep digging those shoulders.

Thanks!
Dig in my book means like, but I guess you mean work?
Yeah, I am thinking about how to design the feet, that three toe setup looked pretty cool on the Zpheres, I'll have to draw something this weekend...

In my point of view it means go further: more research and work. It means you've find a way, now exploit it.
Test, if it works continue on it, if it doesn't then trash, change it or retry.
Here you're looking for something, quite the same as digging.

Yeah definitely, the whole front is extremely wip, have hardly touched that... But I like the back (lower and thighs to be more precise).
I am also thinking on whether or not I should go for bulgy clearly defined muscles or if I should keep on with the rock hard type of strength... Since this will be a character that is actually pulling the world through the universe, according to the denizens of said world, he would probably need a more enduring type of strength. I also want to retain this in the look of his toiling face as well as in the massive shoulders, neck and thighs to show that he has been fact been the guardian of the world for so long....
Oh and mods, if you see this, could you perhaps change the name to something more suitable like "The Guardian" or something like that... (name proposals anyone?)
