the 2d forums are dead here.. if you want help I would post at conceptart.org
I know they are scary but it's worht it most of the time.
as for me.. I think you should put in a middle ground and clean up the tree a bit. but thats just me...maybe make the tree a little more interesting. right now it's jsut straight up.. no branches.

I'll make some branches, but I don't understand the middle ground thing.

Ok, I thik you need something walking down the path...
A smurf, or
A pixie, or
A brownie, or
A Frog with a stick over his shoulder, or
A couple ants talking, or
A cricket, or
A mouse...
The animals/bugs should be like cartoony walking on 2 legs things, like you see in A Bugs Life or whatever... =P

I agree... it has somekind of a first plane, then goes the furthest plane. You could add a very first plane - a black shape of a branch or a bush, sharpen the tree edges - they are blurred, then add the further plane, that is transition between those two. It would use some more planes, even if it is a single bush.
Sorry for the inconvenience, that you didn't receive the reply... I was out for some time... :( :o
