Hey, everyone.
Call me crazy, but I've always wanted to do something for DW, so even though its pretty late in the game already I'm going to start a 3D character and see how far I get.

I have a few different ideas I've been playing around with over the past week, but I think I'm going to pick the one I'm furthest along with.

The God of the Dead
The original idea was an entity that controls/uses the dead. I'm aiming for something thats creepy and dangerous looking, but not necessarily malicious or evil…it is what it is, kind of.

It started off with the idea of something that can puppet corpses for its own purposes, but the idea is evolving a bit. I want the character to have a bit of puppet type construction itself to make its purposes a little ambiguous-basically, I want it to be unclear whether the god controls its own body or whether its the servant of something else.

As far as the design itself, I want it to look a little rickety…like it has some elements of really crude machinery and kind of a constructed look. Right now I'm trying to plan it based on a few "elements"-bone, leather, rope, cast iron, etc.

I tend start rough concepts in 3D, so I've got a decent start I think. Here's the rough sculpt so far:

Still have a ton of design work to do. Doing some tests to see what's feasible with the poly limit, will post more soon once I get legs/arms/chest figured out a little more.

Any feedback is definitely appreciated, and good luck to everyone!

Like the starting concept (already quite advanced), gl onto the competition, go for it!

Didn't really like the hip spurs that I had on the thing, so I think I'm going to replace those with another set of arms...although they'll have to be fists bc fingers would eat up too much of the poly budget. Should allow me to do some more interesting stuff with the back and the primary arms. Think I'm also going to put a lantern in the chest cavity, could make some interesting effects with fake translucency/glow map.

Also did a quick retop on the body/skull for better sculpting.

Did some rough transpose work to get a better idea of what kind of pose I want. Its super sloppy, but I'm thinking something like this:

Still have a lot more design work to do. Think I'm getting close on the layout stuff and I'll be able to work on the full sculpt pretty soon.

One thing I'm really trying to do is indicate which is the primary set of arms without making the other look stuck on. I'm not super happy with all the arms/spikes kind of converging on one place...there are a few angles where I think the silhouette looks pretty cool, and a few where it just looks pretty iffy...

Looking forward to getting it cleaned up and refined a bit more. Crits appreciated and thanks for looking.

Looking pretty creepy Scott. Maybe you can scale up his torso area. Lookin forward to updates!

Ok, figured out a few things a bit better but not much new. Behind schedule but if I can have the sculpt and low res done by the end of the weekend I think I'll be able to at least finish it.
I've been doing a lot of topology/resolution tests on the parts to see what I can get away with...I'm in decent shape I think, but may have to cut a few things.

There are a few things that are holding me up a little bit-mostly the double arm thing and how thats going to connect to everything. I'll hopefully have some more progress soon.
