Hi,

I am new here and wanted to try out the Dom V competition. I saw the competition for Dominance war V and at first I didn't want to try it out. But an idea came to me and I decided to try it out even though I may not finish by deadline. Bear with me, there's a few things i want to explain.

My take on a god is a being of power, a being that is immortal. Well Since being immortal means cannot die, i was thinking of doing some kind of god dealing with time. There was a few people who tried doing a god of time also.

My idea for it is kind of influenced by a few things. One is the living tribunal from marvel comics(pretty much Marvel comic's god). I wanted to include 3 heads for my god. Each head represents an age and a time period. The main head is an adult aged face while the other head would be an aged face and last face would be a young/baby face. Each one would be also shown in a specific way that conveys some kind of symbolism. The old face would have everything covered up except the eye area. The baby face would have most of the face covered up except the mouth area. The old face represents the future while the baby face represents the past. What I hear about is people always talking about the past, but also people seeing the future. You know how it goes, we always daydream and see our futures, and as for the past we always talk about our past. The regular adult face would have nothing covered up, i was thinking about adding ears but wouldn't be possible with 3 heads. The regular adult face won't have anything covered up thus kind of representing the idea of our senses are always immersed in the present.

I was thinking of some things i can do with design and how i can convey the god of time. Well one thing I wanted to do is do some armor but wasn't sure how to design it. Then I was looking around for pictures and I saw dinosaur pics and though of a great idea to put a type of triceratops bone helmet on the god. The main thing is the fact that a triceratops has 3 horns which in a way goes with the 3 faces of time.

Another key component that my character will have is he has a staff that controls time, this staff when wielded would age the appendage eons and eons. Therefor even a god may show some wear and tear. That arm itself is going to look malnutrition and thin and somewhat old looking too. I thought it would have a nice contrast look to it.

Now, here are a few things I may need this community's opinion on.

1. First the overall design, I started out some sketches and overall im not a great sketch artist. The single most important thing in any design to start off is silhouette. After sketching a few times I think its best if my character has a thinner look to it. I am not sure if my god of time would look right if he was some what buffed up. After seeing some of the sketches can you guys pick a specific sketch you like or an silhouette i should follow? Any suggestions on it? Im struggling to find a good silhouette that stands out.

2. Next is the arm issue and some things i may want to add to my god. Here is the thing I was thinking of. I was thinking that since this is the god of time, which equates to fourth dimension. I was thinking about having it have 4 arms. I have a few sketches and I am not sure if it would fit the look. I wanted to do this because each arm would be holding something to represent each dimension. One arm Holding a spear that represents a line(first dimension). Another arm holding a triangular or square type of shield(Flat plane, 2nd dimension), the third arm holding or creating some kinda energy ball or maybe a cubic gauntlet(third dimension), and of course the last arm holding the staff that aged the arm representing time (fourth dimension) What do you guys think of this idea and would it be too much and too busy for my character?

3. Last is the type of things my god would be wearing. I already have the head armor with triceratops helmet. I wanted to put additional armor but not any armor. My god has lived through the earliest of times and through history he picked up different armor artifacts and put it on himself. I wanted to put armor that shows it aged through time, rusted up and all damaged. Now, I wanted to do a damaged rusted shoulder armor plate and also a type of Dinosaur rib cage type of armor for the chest and stomach area. And maybe another type of metallic rusted armor on its legs. Same thing with the arm, do you guys think its too much to convey and would it be too messy of a look if i do that for my character? Should I just stay with one type of armor(boney type of armor) I didn't want to do too many type of metallic armor pieces since I wanted to show this is some kind of god not some kind of warrior looking god.

Any suggestions and other ideas would be appreciated. I'm hoping I can get the sketches and overall proportions and silhouette fleshed out and I'll start on the 3d part with zspheres in zbrush. Its going to be kinda tight but hopefully i can finish it or at least complete most of it.

The back story is still being fleshed out but i'll probably have that done shortly, I want to get the base 3d mesh and high poly model started soon so I can try to push this thing out asap.

Update:

I decided to go with this sketch here:

Somewhat of a tall semi lanky character. Making changes in 3d as its being done if any suggestions are added.

Here is base Zsphere that I started out with:

and started to work out the forms and shapes and overall proportions and silhouette.
Here is what I have so far, more details and forms being added to mesh before retopologizing. Hoping I can finish the overall character mesh by end of weekend so I can start on his accessories and clothes.

Any suggestions in the meantime? I'm probably going to shorten the arm base, seems a bit too long to me even though it somewhat follows the sketch I had originally.

Went ahead and fleshed out the forms and silhouette more. Didn't like the proportions so changed it up a bit and also refined the front head a bit to make it look more of a normal face. Didn't like the real thin malnourished stomach look so refined it to give it a bit more normal looking. Probably make his rib area a lot more bony once I start detailing it. Also pasted on the concept drawing to see how the overall silhouette will look with the horns and helmet. Lengthened the legs a bit also.

a small update....was refining the back arms a little bit to make them look a little nicer. Also started to make the one arm holding the staff age and thin out more up to the chest and rib area. Haven't done the serratus muscles yet. Also did the 2nd head a little bit and tried to make an aging head look. That part is annoying since there is no symmetry I can use to sculpt the head so I have to sculpt each side of the old face one at a time. Luckily old people can have a asymmetrical look and still look normal. Dreading when I have to start sculpting the other side which is the younger baby look.

Gonna push the boney skinny right arm a lot more then finish the other side of the head then start the high frequency details.

Again, if there is any crits or suggestions please comment.

Update on project. Was busy over mother's day weekend so didn't get much done other than refining the sculpt. Almost done sculpting the base mesh character and going to start on the armor shortly and weapons shortly. Some remaining tweaks is the skin folds and the making the side faces smaller. Also need to do the high frequency details. Time is running out, hopefully I can finish by soft deadline or the day after soft deadline.

testing out how the armor and silhouette would look with zspheres and base meshes. I guess it looks alright...still need to add in base mesh for the robe. http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m620/jwhling/Progress_5.jpg

Wow just found out deadline extended one week. I might actually finish in time. Put in the dino bone helmet, put in basic details but not the high frequency yet. Refined the old man man's face and put a clothe cover on the head. Put a skull place holder on the ragged skirt. Also put in spine armor in the back but not yet worked on the one wrapping around his chest. Still a lot of small details to add in still and weapons. I think I should be able to finish but still wondering on what color skin I should do for my god. I was goign to go for regular human skin texture but might be boring, going to run some test after I finish sculpting. Still a lot to do.

Also, he is going to hold 3 weapons and a shield. But if time doesn't allow, I am only going to have him hold one staff. Not sure what kind of armor I should put in his pelvic area....Might do some old rusted armor or maybe just a loin clothe but that would look kinda stupid. Might needa sketch it out.

Hey JWHLing, havenīt seen your god before, I love the helmet you did for him! it looks very heavy but it is nice, also the cloth around his faces looks very good!!
The idea you have to make 3 weapons would be fantastic!:) but you will need time to make the low poly and textures, soo think about that.
Iīve got an idea about the pelvis armor. Since he is the god of time, maybe some kind of armor with a clock.
Keep going mate, he is looking good.

Thanks for the comment. As for the pelvic area, I think im going to do a gladiator type of armor with the team logo in that area with the clothe coming down from that. Im working on the final details for the head. Not sure which eyebrow style I should go for, a bushier one or a narrow one:

After this Im going to finish up on the armor and weapons then start the texturing.

Quick last update. Almost done with sculpt and then going to texture and diffuse channel. I hope i can finish that in 2 days or so with unwrapping. Lighting shouldn't be too difficult for me. Really close but still a lot of details to add in. Heres a pic of the model, the rib cage armor wraps both side and also the shoulder guard will be slightly heavier.

heres the picture of the staff weapon pretty much done but maybe some more details on the base pole. If time willingly i will do the other 3 weapons.

oh quick info about the staff, I wanted to do a shape similiar to a hour glass and also a tesserrect shape which is what some people consider a shape representing the 4th dimension.

Starting to texture the weapons, armor and character. ALready did some projection textures, at first was goign to go with regular skin tone but I'm kinda feeling the purple tint look too... I'll decide at the very end when all the weapons and armor is done then test it by then.

on the home stretch but I think i should be able to finish by monday night.
