Hey guys, I'm looking for a way to Disable texture smoothing in the viewports of Max 2012. I've got some pretty small textures that I'm using for reference on planes and i need to retain there blocky ( pixelated) look and feel.

Well you could disable Nitro and go back to Direct3d Hardware Shading....

... with raw Direct3d you can make some configurations for your textures like the texture resolution.

But I think there is a trick.

Mulitply the size of your texture image in Photoshop or something ( that raises the number of pixels) so 3ds Max does less smoothing on your texture :D

This may work.

Thanks man,
i think its a real shame we can't have so much control over these things in such an expensive program.
( Edit: actually this is what i was looking for, thought they removed it)

Yup. I tossed away my 2012 trial and kept with my beloved 2011. The Nitrous viewport was a little bit of a scam and a deception for me :(

Nitrous is fricking awesome if you have a gtx580, less so on older cards.

Whichever way you look at it though, it still performs ten times better than 2011

Donīt get me wrong. Nitrous has been the best view port improvement since years but I feel my 2012 x64 trial had some serious bugs with my rig (vanishing objects, translation errors, material editor loading slow as s***) . Maybe just because I have an over-clocked video card and my hard drive is years old.

I definitely īll try the corrections in the Service pack.

But Iīm not upgrading until Iīm convinced this works flawlessly on my rig.

i wouldn't have gone to 2012 if I'd had a choice but the new job came with new software.

post hotfix its usable (hotfix will install on the demo), the owrst viewport errors i get at work are flipped normals on objects you have made an instance of and that goes away when they're selected.

service pack is out now - I've not installed it yet due to still being halfway through a project but it sounds positive (if they've admitted to that many bugs, imagine how many they've actually fixed)bugs
