The Challenge Rules

1). Each challenge we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. Spend no longer than the allocated time then post a render of your model. No cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modeling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. Any images of models that do not match the brief can be removed and the poster disqualified.

2). You may enter as many times as you like as long as each model is completely new and uses no components from other entries. Entries using models which are not original will be removed and the poster disqualified.

3). Your entry may contain as many views of your model as you like and must include a clear and easy to see wireframe of the mesh before any smoothing/subdivision has been applied. Wire renders/ Cell Shaded or Screengrab wireframes are acceptable. Any wireframes we cannot see correctly will be disqualified. The key is for us to be able to see the wireframes clearly to ascertain how you modelled the subject matter.

4). You MUST include the following details with each submission:

A). Software used
B). Time spent creating the model.

Any further information is voluntary but posts not containing the required information can be removed and the poster disqualified.

5). Post TWO images per entry which must be no larger than 1280x1024 pixels in either landscape or portrait format with a file size of no more than 195k.
1 image for your wireframes and 1 for your clay combined with a optional beauty render.
These images must be uploaded to our servers using the "browse" button on the forum reply page.
Do not link to external images files. Images larger than the maximum size or posts containing links to external images (other than for reference materials)
will be removed and the poster disqualified.

6). The creation of displacement maps, normal maps and any splines drawn out in an external program other than your modeling software are to be included in your modeling time.

7). Time spent on rendering or texturing or building a scene in which to display your model is not included in the allocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure". If your model is not complete, you can still post it as long as it's recognizable.

8). Posting the same entry twice in a challenge is considered to be double posting and will result in a disqualification. When asked to fix a previous post due to DQ or any other reason, you must fix the first post, or delete it altogether and create a new one.

9). The Winner must email jo@3dtotal.com to claim their prize.

10). Only 1st place & 2nd place (i.e. the runner up) can claim a prize.

These rules apply to everybody taking part there will be NO exceptions!

Aaaah so hairdryers are allowed :D I think I may just retrace my steps back to the prehistory of speed modelling and do a remake of my "Hairdryer" entry :D

They are harder to model than you think hairdyers. Will definately try this week. I'm at the doctors tomorrow. And will be going to Skegness (skeggy) this Thursday

This might be pushing the limits of "haircare products", but I was searching around for ideas, and kept coming across these really cool looking old fashioned barber shop chairs! So I collected a few reference images, sketched out my own, and then made this! I'm quite happy with it, except for a few parts where I ran out of time and they lack detail (like the foot pads). This is really the first time I've spent so much time with the post production part of things.

Also, only the chair was modelled within the 60 minutes, so that's all I expect to be judged on. The rest of it falls under its "environment" I guess.

Thank You rockyourteeth for your interest!
Bristles designed Lightwave FiberFX and some should be more used (and a bit randomly).
The handle is manually Subpach modeling.
Handhold bristle cloned from a single plate and slightly modified manually.

Well couldn't resist trying my hand at a Barber's Shop scene, the chair was modelled fairly quickly then duplicated and rotated into different positions, the room itself was very basic as are the cabinets etc.

ints you should make a clay render and wire-frame capture that is not smoothed ...

also nice modeling ;)

Thanks, SherifAlaa55!
In LightWave Subpach modeling fundamentally are smooth.
However, I have put both versions.

Hi guys!!

Here is my second entry this week. Itīs a hair dryer that I bought long time ago. Itīs sort of futuristic i think...:)

Hope you like it despite I wasn't able to finish it. I had to leave out a lot of cool details out, 60 min runs faster than I thought.:haha:

Ojah
15-07-2011, 01:45 PM
Are clays mandatory nowadays? Since for the last contest my entry didnt have a clay and i dont want to get disqualified for that :) (I think i've never added a clay, unless i was lazy and didnt texture)

ints
15-07-2011, 01:57 PM
I also published clay and hope that the fit.

Garner
15-07-2011, 02:56 PM
well I managed to make a quick entry did not finish off all the details I wanted to put turned out okay in the end given the time limit

ClassicGamer-3DT
15-07-2011, 03:10 PM
Well ..... actually.... clays aren't in the rules but I think clays add that little bit more, they can showcase your models detailing much better than a beauty render sometimes.

Garner - that is a sweet entry, love the logo and the design, well done :)

Working on the next SMC right now and really enjoying it, should be a good one, all will be revelaed tonight at 10pm. :)

Ojah
15-07-2011, 03:20 PM
ok cool, since im doing some brutal crunch ill leave clays for my next smc then :).

RoDr1
15-07-2011, 03:21 PM
Well, any doubt now should be solved!!!:haha:

Garner: Loving that bottle!! the label design is great, I love it!!!

ClassicGamer-3DT: Who knows what are you preparing us!!!
Could you gossip around something, so the wait until the 10pm be more bearable, haha :haha:

Hey CG, What about that? Rule #5 is the wire and clay rule...

"5). Post TWO images per entry which must be no larger than 1280x1024 pixels in either landscape or portrait format with a file size of no more than 195k.
1 image for your wireframes and 1 for your clay combined with a optional beauty render."

ClassicGamer-3DT
