All hands on deck, all hands on deck.

Threedy is under attack and with the main office away at Siggraph, the best thing we can do now is defend ourselves till they get back. We need to board up the windows and stock pile our weapons. The good news, our weapons or upgradable, as well as the structures we hide behind. Just need to figure out how these new razzle dazzle weapons work. Try not to shot your eye out.

Some may say we are scared little cowards for hiding, but I say, hiding is hard work. Lets make hiding, look good.

DUE DATE: September 11th, 11:59 pm GMT - SUNDAY

Idea:

Create a 3 stage weapon or 3 stage defensive structure. Your weapon or structure must be basic to start (example: a simple pistol or fence), then have 2 stages that increase their defensive power. Which you choose to create is up to you. What time frame these objects are from, is up to you. All stages must share the same texture sheet.

Poly limit:

10,000 Tris Total. You can do whatever you want with these, just don’t get carried away and don’t exceed the 10,000 Tri Limit. Remember, the limit tells you where to stop, there is no minimum, so use as much of the limit as you see fit.

Textures:

-1 x 1024 Color Map
-1 x 1024 Reflection Map
-1 x 1024 Specular Map
-1 x 1024 Specular Color Map
-1 x 1024 Normal Map
-1 x 1024 Bump Map
-1 x 1024 Opacity (transparency) Map
-1 x 1024 Glow map
-1 x 1024 Glossiness map.

You can not chop it up into multiple smaller textures.

Textures can be hand-painted or you can use photographic sources. Do what you do.


Pedestals/Stands:

You do not have to create one, but if you do, understand that there is no texture or tri limit. You can go as crazy as you want, or keep it basic.


Restrictions:

-Joint entries are prohibited for this challenge

-Your entry must be specifically created for this challenge. Do not use any pieces from previous personal works.

-There are no lighting restrictions.

-All Game/Render Engines are allowed.

-You must create a W.I.P Thread to show off your work in progress.

Final Pictures:

Required In The Final Post (1 post per entry):

- 1 x Winning shot. This image should consist of your piece depicted in its most awesome angle.

- 1 x Beauty shot of your piece. Feel free to put multiple angles of your piece or just one big version or your piece on this page. You are free to do whatever post effects you like on this image. Be careful how you do this though, simple is often better. It’s up to you.

- 1 x Construction shot of your piece. Feel free to put multiple wire frame shots or just one big wire frame shot on this page. It is up to you.

- 1 x Texture sheet that includes all your used sheets squeezed into "one" sheet.

- Concept Sheet (if you have one)

I say we save vehicles till possibly next time. I don't see how a vehicle could be used defensively. Unless you say that the best defence is a good offence :)

I think vehicles should be allow, I see no reason why not. As long as it is made for defense.
Siege Tanks in Starcraft are great defensive units. Artillery, catapaults, and ballistas are all used for defending.

so i get it. three stages. so like stage 1 could be - create a madagascan bamboo plant..
stage two could be ground it down and vapourise it and store in canisters.. and like stage three could be using projector rockets to deploy the sciniade based aerasol weapon..

More like have a bamboo plant that acts as a wall. 2 put spikes on it. 3 add some electric wires, cctv cams and fixed machine guns on top... ;)

Think of it like a Pokemon, with 3 stages of evolution, each more advanced and powerful than the previous.

Yeah, as long as it is a weapon/building/vehicle aimed for defense, it can not be a character or creature, that is like the rule...

Would a robotic sentry turret type deal be acceptable....or is that too close to a character? I'm thinking along the lines of an immobile defense robot, but I'm worried it's too 'character-like'.

I this brief is a great comprimise between all of the different suggestions, and a good consideration of the technical concerns that were raised in the suggestion thread.

Well I must say that if you want big changes then it is rather limiting with that, but yeah. You can only add geometry with this brief, not modify anything :/. Which sucks in my mind...

10k for everything, and 1024 map for everything. So the whole 10k worth of model(s) fit into one 1024 map.

Now, I must drink me my hooker. I don't do coke.:evil:

Then I could just go make a ****** robot android and say hey this is not a character this is a static robot that is defensive right? ;P

Cuban - Yeah I just came up with an idea that might work for it, but then again you can't change any form of patterns basically unless you go 512 for each step ;)

What i thought about was somthing that has troubled us in israel alot,
back home you find these three level exlpoding bags. it looks quite normal,
no one knows to who it belongs and after a while it explodes.
this kind of terror happens alot....
just thought its a nice challenge for this comp...
by the way im new here,
but been checking on 3Dtotal a very long time

Yeh I'm mostly done just got to get the screenshots and do the presentation pages. BTW do we need all 3 stages on each of the beauty and presentation pages?

You will want to have all 3 on at least one of your images, but the way you go about doing it, is up to you.
