View Full Version : MY max 5 mapping woes

i have an editable mesh. no modifiers whatsoever. it's a milk carton - a box with a sort of triangle on the top? know what i'm on about?
anyway, i go into select polygon mode, and select all polygons. now correct me if i'm wrong, but if i now put 1 in the material Id, shouldn;t that change all the polys to 1? and if i then select just the top part, and put 2, shouldn't that deselect them from 1, and change them to 2?
that's how it worked so far. but no! now, it refuses to do what i tell it! if i select all the polys, and put 1, it still treats them as different mat IDs!

any ideas?

I know this is not going to help but...
did u press "enter" after u've entered the material id?

this is actually a bug with max 5, you can't enter a material id for a bunch of faces on different id's to all be on one id

the workaround is to instead of typing it in, use the little arrows and click until you get to where you need. that'll make it stick.

don't celebrate too much ;)

after trulling around discreet's 3ds max web board, you tend to get the feeling that there's a lot of bugs. i love max but you really see that every one of these versions of max is really just a wip
