hehe making other people do the math for you knut =P
"he who laughs last thinks slowest?"
i think not they laugh last because they have more things to think about and disregard to get to the answer
hence when they find the piece of the puzzel that is funny they laugh longer than anyone else because they know how obscure the answer might have been in relation to there own lives.
he who laughs last has lived fuller, ad enjoys a good joke
anyway enough bull****ting
i started fingerpainting when i was like 2 or 3 or something, hows that =P
then crayons and stuff
first experience with compuetr 2d was when i was like 15 or 16 using friends pc's
first experience using 3d was on my brp's pc when i was like 15, 16
i bought my own pc when i was 18,.. sucks to not have one of your own to play on havent looked back since

Ehmm, lesse...
I started with GEMpaint when I was 6..
Then I changed to Apple Paint Shop when I was around 11
Used TruSpace 1.0 and Photoshop 3 back when I was 13, remember the times..
Kept using Photoshop all the way since then, haven't tried 7 yet.
Toyed some with Macintosh Strata 3d Studio when I started Media, which made me decide that... Strata sucked, so I joined a class in 3d studio.. But I never got in, and instead the head-computer-guy gave me a CD and told me to use it at home instead... :P That was around a year ago, never really started til 6 months ago, with 3d Studio 4.. Then I got v5 from my brother who used it in school. :)
I'm 18 now.
-There you have it, my life story.

I think i started when i was about 12 or 13. because I know I've been doing it for almost 5 years now and I'm 17 years old.
I'm not so good though if you kompare to people like Kuman and Radarhead. I guess it's because i never read any tutorials or anything like that. Everything i know i learned myself by fiddeling in the program I've used. Guess that's just who i am.

oh, and had a 2danimation prog a long while back - i was about 12-13.... their test ani was a stick figure shooting an arrow with his head? anyone know what i'm on about?

there is NO WAY any of you started out with a legitemate copy of MAX as young as 13 or whatever :) tsk tsk!
I started making 2d animations at about 13, then went to Paint shop Pro, then discovered Photoshop was a lot better, then decided at 14 - 15 that 3d was more interesting, so read up on it... only RECENTLY i started to understand how it works, and im actually starting to learn now... (as of a few months ago)
Mat...
been using photoshop for at about 20yr old. then got into max at 24yr old. i'm now 26 so a little over 2 years on 3D. well more like 2 1/2

More than 99% of max users start with an illegal copy, and more than 99% of them buy the original version when they start commercial using of the programme!
Discreet, Autodesk, etc. know that. They can do more things for copy protection, but they know, that people wouldn't buy the programme just for hobby use, and that's the problem, because most people start 3d as a hobby, and then start commercial use, because they first have to learn the programmes!
just a short comment on this, back to theme ;)

****, seems I´m the oldest one around!
I´m 30 next month, and have been using Max "seriously" for about 4-5 months now... But I´ve been using AutoCad last 7-8 yrs for standard 2D drawings (that´s my job) and have been playing around with 3D modeling in AutoCad for a couple of years too.... But actually, interest in cg I´ve had since I was about 10-12 yrs old painting with the Amiga (which was brand new and very, very powerful then)!

STARTED 3D with autocad as a freshman in highschool. Man it sucked compared to 3dsmax. All i did was finish up my work real fast so i could play with the materials ans try to make a pretty picture or a car or soemthing.... of course they were sad attempts....

autocad is useful for what it's built for. :)
i've taken several courses in it, and can do some things easier in autocad than i can in 3d studio... But I don't think they should be compared really. :P
I've never bought a copy of 3d studio max! :) I also haven't had an illegal copy, depending on if the way I acquired them counts as legal or not. (School licenses)

yes i know AutoCAD fairly well, I studied it for 4 years. Probably could have gotten a well paying job with that but i didnt like it, it just wasnt fun.
Anyways, yes AutoCAD and Max are on two different levels, should not be compared

Seems I started 3d about the same time a lot of you did, about 3 years ago, only I was 45.
started photoshop at age... 14 ? After about half a year, i got really good at making proffessional templates, and logos. And started making alot of money (by the hundreds, and have now made over 1500$) I dreamed of making this stuff as my career. Then i realised the field was way too crowded, and any 10 year old can do it... I decided to spend my money on lightwave, and Dan albans Lightwave seven, here i am now, 2 months into it, and ive learned a bit of modelling skills, and am trying to texture.
I guess i wanna get into 3d as a career :)
Started with Paint Fox (c64. Yeah!) when I was - 4 or 5 I guess. But since the question is about 3d progs, I started with Aztec at 17 and still follow this open-source project (Check it out. (http://aztec.sourceforge.net) It's evolving to a useful prog :) )
One year later I started with max4.2.
(memo to self:force self to work 3d again
download new Aztec)

Started with ms paint when i was 8.
I played with quark(a quake 2/3 editor) when is was 12.
After that i tried Qeradiant(q3 editor) when i was 13/14.
I also learned flash/fireworks when i was 14.
After that came photoshop. And a few months after i became 18 I started 3dmax 4 and 5. I have been doing it for about 6/7 months now.
I'm almost 19 now.

I started doing 3d stuff when I was 12... I started with a cameleon in 3ds 4 after seeing my brother do the tuts, lol. That was one year ago, so u do the math ;)
I started about 3-4 years ago, when I was 12. I did some lightwave models then moved to 3ds Max. I started doing images and stuff on psp and then photoshop.

I started about 4-5 years ago using q3 Radiant..created some ugly levels..etc.
When I was 16, I had my first experience with max (R3) when I was browsing the network at a lan party.. I kinda messed around with it for a few months, and then got serious into it when I was 18 - began learning 3ds max 4.2 and PS.

I guess i started with flash when i was 9...um PSP when i was about the same age...
started 3d with 3dsmax3 when i was 11, but changed to ms3d when i was about 12. then i turned to photoshop when i was 13...and that was about a month ago.
To get acquainted with the new technology: Paintshow Plus and Dr. Halo - in 1988.
Getting serious into CG: Micrografx Designer 2.0 - in 1989.
Corel 2.0 in 90. Pagemaker and Freehand (then made by Aldus) in 91. Photoshop and Illustrator in 93.
Knowing what 3D was about: Bryce (yes!). But Bryce is just a playground. So i plunged into Corel Dream, a skinny version of RayDream. Both in 1996.
In 2000 i realized i had to get serious about 3D. So i met Max 3.0 and now i'm still catching up with you kids.:D

I played with corel draw 5 from God knows how long.By the age of 10 I found Corel Dream. At 12 I got Bryce and fooled around with primitives and terrain.
In some magazine I found out that the movies in StarCraft were made in 3dstudiomax and then I started modelling in Max with entusiasm (that was at the age of 14-15, I guess)

I started using PhotoShop when I was ten. I then moved on to Milkshape a few months later. Got sick of Milkshape too primitive.
A year later I got back into 3d and started mucking around with programs like LightWave, Bryce, PaintShopPro and Maya but was not impressed. I was 12 when my cousin gave me a Burnt copy of 3DS Max 3.0 this program was about 7000 dollas australian at the time so you can imagine how excited I was. I have used every copy of Max scince then and I love it.
I have used about every 2D and 3D program out there but Max and Photoshop are by far the Best.

Very first I had Deluxe Paint Animator, wich included a 3d feature. Then I had Autocad from Autodesk. I was about 12. Then I got 3d Studio 4 for DOS when I was about 14 and a week later I learned how to change the view from a wireframe to a shaded preview. To get the Rendering done took me about a couple of months. Then Years of experimenting and first morphing and bones/skin. With a cow Yeah! Trying the 3dstudio Scripting and then finaly moved to 3dsmax 1.2 together with a book. Tried to write a 3d-engine in Turbo Pascal, then in Borland C, then in C++. I was about 16/17 then. With the help of 3dsmax 3++ I had lots of sleepless nights :) (18?). And now arrived at 3dsmax 5.1, cause the 6 isn't running with my Graphic Card. Oh yes, I'm 21 now.
Long story cut short. I have gained nearly no skills since then.

Been into drawing & art generally since I was a wee lad. First tried 3d on an amiga 1200 I was about 19, 20 I think - lathed a wine glass, (no real texturing to speak of,) then convinced my gf to let me buy a pc "I'll use it for stuff other than games I promise! It could be useful for cv's etc & I'd still like to have a go at that 3d stuff." That was about 22 maybe & turned out to be the best investment I ever made - rather than just using it for games (I do play sometimes on it,) I got heavily into 3d. First I got a little package called simply 3d 2 - very cheap & made for web logos etc. Textures were all drag & drop but I learned a lot from that package such as how to manipulate objects in 3d space, the 4 up viewports & there was some basic mesh editing allowed, so I tried to push it as far as I could. Got max 1 whenever that was around after buying a book on it, (& naively being dissaponted by the fact that it wasn't included on the cd, followed by being shocked at the real price,) & been plugging away ever since & starting to feel like I'm making some headway at last now. Total time involved properly, probably about 8 years or so - I'm 29 now.

wow.. a lot of youngins.. (im still fairly young myself i suppose)
anyways.. ive been into art for a very long time... i used to hate it because i was the best in my class and all the teachers depended on me to push out the good stuff... then i realized i loved it but just not to show it around them :) seceretly
when we had a old 386.. we had warcraft 2 (game still rocks in a old school kind of way) and i used to make pain stakenly awesome maps that took 16 hours of straight non stop game play to beat, ahhh the memories... i was about 7-8 at the time... then around 10 ish.. i got ahold of corel draw 5 from my uncle and ive pretty much been into it every since.. swapping from corel to photoshop when 3.5 was out.. i still have 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 6.0, and 7.0 photoshop... im currently running CS which is quite good... anyways...
around 16ish i got heavily into game concepts.. creating game diagrams and illustrations in my school book.. (i filled a 5 subject 5 star mead notebook with game concepts and designs.. still have it :) ) around 17 i bought harnessing 3dsmax 5... and then mysterously got the program ;)

Join the party. I looked around for a lot of unwrapping tutorials, but I only found a few and never did any of them. I'm starting to understand it a little better now that I've forced myself to do it. Here's (http://waylon-art.com/uvw_tutorial/uvwtut_01.html) probably the best one I found. I browsed through it and picked up a couple good tips here and there, but I never actually did the tutorial, so lemme know if it helps :).

got started with 3d about 11 years ago. started 3d in autocad ... yes no comparison, but that is what started my interest. I have been using max 5 off and on for about 1 1/2 years.
I am an architect and can model inorganic scenes with very little difficulty, but organic stuff is soo different. mapping and textures i can handle. my lighting skills are horrible and need a lot of work. currently trying to improve my understanding of lighting and working on organic modeling. max is awsome hopfully i will be better soon :(
i have a lot of work to do.

Started to do Photoshop 5 and 6, Illustrator and Quarkxpress when I was 16, because I began on my graphical designing school.
In the 2nd year I came in touch with 3ds max 3 and within a couple of days I had Max5 in my hands (I was 18 by then)...I'm now 19 :)

started with doing drawings and paintings on paper. played with mspaint a bit too.
started painting Miniatures (Warhammer 40'000 - Citadel Miniatures), started getting pretty good with it at a self-taught level.
I started a Games Design course this year, 'cause it seemed interesting. Started using 3dsmax in about March this year, Photoshop in about April :P - i like making Cars, but i'm not that great at making em just yet. Planning on doing 3d stuffs as a career eventually.
i'm 18 now, and am doin Tutorials and stuff at TAFE to try and get better at it all.
here's one of my cars :P - i didn't make the wheels

I started at age 13 or so with Bryce 5. Then it went over to Milkshape 3D. I am now learning and using Cinema 4D and am now 16 years old.

I kinda started trying 3ds max a couple of years ago, but never got more than an hour of solid work at a time. I started getting really involved around march this year. I mostly model cars. you can see the results on the links below
