mythical creatures sounds interesting but its the most popular topic for sculpting chalanges and we allready had few .
i would suggest:
fairy tales gone wrong - we pick a character or creature from a tale or mith(we can integrate mythical creatues on to this) and give it a twist . for example: i take a funny mythical creature like a dragon and make it in to Chihuahua dragon, or i take a fairy from peter pan and make it in to a big ugley man (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ByJseLaZovM/TOyKXVL7MpI/AAAAAAAAEPo/_BoQFmelsow/s1600/gross-old-man1.jpg) with wings and dressed like fairy . i think you get the idea :)
