Group Created by Rachel vd M

a group dedicated to bring back the classic
"Threedy SMC's"

The Speed Modelling Challenges were one of the most amazing parts on the threedy forums.

The goal was to "model" a certain subject in a restricted amount of time (like 60minutes).
Because of the freedom it had people created the most original and funny entries to be seen on the 3DT forums.

For Example:
"Say Cheeze" aka make a photocamera resulted in modern DSLR or "single-use" cameras to classical Camera's from the 1920's.

The main advantage of these challenges were the fact that you had a random subject every week or two. Challenging you to model something you would normally never pick to model in 3D.
Because of this people got to learn all kinds of techniques to be able to model faster and more efficient over a wide array of subjects.

Please join if you want the SMC's back!!!
And dont forget to comment on why you want the SMC's back!

Yep, you're right Oskar. I think it's totally different, because all people model the same exact thing (with different solutions) but Smcs, where fun, you had to "study" different topics each week and was nice to see creativity flowing with each entry.

One thing I would like to add to this: Sure we have the photo modeling but I'd say that it differs quite greatly from the SMCs as they are a lot more creative

I really enjoyed doing the SMC's as well. A great way of increasing your skills, thinking ahead about how to tackle something as efficient as possible.

The prizes really don't matter at all to me. For me it's just for fun and practice.

    Great initiative!

Would love to see the sculpting challenge added as well if possible But it might be best to start out with this one first.

As to awards I'd say that t-shirts are cool, since they are great fun if you actually do win , but are not neccesarily needed...

I'm in Rachel. John, the important thing to me, and I think to many of us, is that the SMCS could be back again. Prizes doesn't matter. Well, I admit it would be great a t-shirt for the winner or something like that. We can talk with Tom and see what he thinks about it.

In a conversation I had with Rachel, I said that maybe you would like to run the Smcs, so if it's ok for you, you have my vote

Im going to PM a couple members that I'm pretty sure they also want SMCs back.

Well i'd be happy to run them again, it all depends on things like prizes, would you want a prize? in the past it was half and half, some members loved just to model and learn and build up their portfolio's, other's like to know there's a chance of winning something. Watch this space, as soon as I know i'll let you know

I'd love for these to be brought back! They were what originally helped me learn...but on top of that they were enjoyable. It seems all over that there's not been a competition for ages. I think that if they brought back these, the forum might gain more life.

This is something i've been considering starting up again recently.

This is the very section of threedy that I started out in 3D properly back in 2004 and it's here that I got to model so many many different items and got to learn so much from all the other members participating.

I will have a word with Tom and see what I can do

    Cheers

    CG.
