I would stress that u should focus on drawing from life before u jump into the whole fantasy genre thing. Also focus on drawing with pencil and paper :)...

To be honest - I'm not a big fan of the soft round brush (just use it when its REALLY necessary). But with some sweet customized smudge...

I manually unwrap my models. It might take longer with an hour than an automatic program like Unwrella, but I like the process, I learn from each one.

Also, no matter what they say, hand unwrapped...

But if you want to use textures then you should as I said before look into...
