Hmm, there are a lot of options in saving an EXR.

Try to add Coverage in EXR. You'll find it in lower part of the setup menu (save coverage as RGBA not Mono, since the Mono is given by default)

for me it is always gamma 2.2 in 3dsmax. If it's dark correct the exposure. It's best to test with physically correct lighting and see the results match up with gamma 2.2

Always remember that everything can be adjusted and modified.

So drag Glow from the F10 (render setup) to the material editor slot and you'll get the settings of the glow. Fiddle with that a bit :)
