Fan Art - Rokedeager - Carnage
Hey everyone, I posted on the game art challenge of the fan art not realizing there was a sculpting one. So I have decided to go for the all out style instead of just using 20K tris.
![]() Carnage has been my all time favorite villain and thought it would be a great challenge to create this fiend. ![]() |

this is the first time I've used Zbrush and I'm using the tutorial version. So far from what I have played around with it, 10x better than mudbox. Here is carnage getting the muscles to fit his body type, might make it a little more exaggerated though where the muscles are for a cartoonish style.

Okay been a while since I have posted a WIP, but I started working on the head portion of him and moving around his waste to make it a little smaller since carnage is a little bit skinnier, and has weird proportions. No where close to being done, but feedback would be great as I have just found the clay brush tool and I am loving it.
Also if anyone has any tips using zbrush or any videos for this challenge that would be awesome! I plan on working on this through the night for a couple more hours to see where I can get with the face and maybe down to the shoulders. Enjoy! :P![]() |

Hey man things are definitely starting to take shape!
Since you're pretty new to ZBR, here are a couple things that might help... Make sure you're smoothing very frequently as you work. Build a shape, smooth it down, build a shape, smooth it down, etc. Smoothing helps to keep the surface nice and organic and helps eliminate the "lumpiness" that starts to show up with the clay brushes. There's a second smoothing algorithm in ZBrush that I'm a huge fan of. Normally to smooth you'd hold down the SHIFT key and sculpt over the surface. If you hold SHIFT, start smoothing, and then let go mid-stroke it switches to the second algorithm. Just something to try to see which one you like better, but it really helps if you've got a section of geometry that's badly pinched. It looks like you already found it, but in case you haven't discovered it yet, the Damien Standard brush is by far the best brush for carving muscle insertions (at least in my opinion). If it doesn't load up automatically, it should be under Lightbox > Brushes > dam_standard. Hmmm. Can't really think of anything else at the moment, but those are all things that helped me when I was getting used to the software. edit - Also, I'm sure you'll develop your own preferences, but my favorite brushes are ClayBuildup, Move, dam_standard, Pinch, and Inflat... Trim Dynamic, Trim Adaptive, and hPolish are also really useful for hard surface stuff. Last edited by Jussslic; 04-03-2012 at 05:49 AM.. |

Thank you Jussslic I appreciate the comment and all the helpful tips. I will defiantly be trying them out. Done for the night gonna hit the hay and get some rest and start up tomorrow. Also love your little bio shock character you started, its different but very cool and unique.

Update
Hey everyone havent been able to work on this that much but I'm really hoping to finish in time. So far this is what I have, still working on some of the muscles. The center part of the body is where the black liquid is going to be pretty much an overlay all over the body, just wanted to start the center part of it. Also havent done anything to the fingers either. Any suggestions just let me know
