Your Rigg
So, I'm getting ready to upgrade my computer and was thinking, what is everyone else working with?
Post a picture of your computer, maybe even toss out a few specs. Then maybe we can cut down on the, what should I get in my next computer threads. All the info they need will be in here. That includes me. Thanks again Poopipe ![]() As soon as my parts get here, and I get it together, I'll show my before and after images. |

I'm only running on a lonely Q6600 quad, with 8GB's of RAM, a 8800GTS 640, 1TB HD with Windows 7 Professional.
Oh and the monitor is a Samsung 20 inch 16:10 SyncMaster 206BW (Max res of 1680x1050)

I don't build for 3D anymore. My latest rig is built for multi-tasking/programming. I use a AMD 1090t processor, 8GB of RAM (which I STILL haven't boosted to 16 as intended at build time), 2TB hard drive and Nvidia GT 460. It gives me good balance and is/was affordable.

Wait, whut?

I'm pretty satisfied with mine:
I7-980 @ 2,7 GHz. If I'm doing something intense, I can easily clock it to 3.8 GHz ![]() 12 Gb 1333 mhz Ram One 300 Gb and one 500 Gb harddrives. GTX 580 1,5 GB GPU and two 1680x1050 monitors. Seeing as, this'll do me pretty well for the next year or even two, next item on my list is a 24" Cintiq, since they cost about half as much in Denmark, where I live now, than back in Iceland.

I just upgraded my system.
CoolerMaster Storm Trooper Gaming Big Tower. ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution, Socket-1366. Intel® Core i7-980 Processor.Six Core, 3.2Ghz, 12MB. Noctua NH-U12P SE2 CPU Cooler. 16GB Corsair Dominator DHX DDR3 1333MHz. Gigabyte GeForce GTX 580 Super Overclock 1536MB. Crucial m4 SSD 2.5" 128GB. 3 x Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB RE-4 7200rpm 64MB SATA-3 Win7. Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid 850W PSU. NZXT Sentry 2 LCD Fan Control 5,25" Bay. 4 x Cooler Master SickleFlow 120mm. 24 LG Flatron screen. Logitech g500 mouse . Logitech MX 3200 Keyboard. The best upgrade i have made in the last five years is the ssd disc. All programs run faster. Start up, normal operations, everything. It's worth the money. My best one is:
Intel I7-2600K @ 3.40 GHz (8 CPUs) 16 GB RAM GeForce 580 GTX 80 GB SSD for Windows 7, software and current project (the speed of an SSD is ridiculous) 2x2 TB HDD @7200 RPM + a bunch of additional coolers I do not overclock, ever. I bought this in July 2011, and my next purchase will have 32 GB Ram (because 16 is just not enough for After Effects and FumeFX) and will be whatever the top Intel processor will be at that time.

I should have listened to Poopipe, I just picked up a GTX550 ti about a month ago, so, didn't want ti to go to waste. Went and got another one. Now, the drivers dont seem to be working. Black screen everytime I install them.
old setup was: a quad core intel I guess it was 3.2 ghz 6 gigs of ram two 500 gig internal hard drives, (1) 500 gig and (1) 1 tb externals gtx 550 ti gpu new: asus sabertooth mother board (loving it) i7 3.5 16 gig of ram (3) 500 gig SATA internal hard drives and get this, I went to best buy looking for a ssd, found a 500 gig ssd drive for 130 dollars. I asked the guy if that was a mistake, he said, not his problem. (1) 500 gig SSD hard drive (2) GTX 550 ti (no working drivers) |

Holy crap! And at that ridiculous price. Wow.
I don't understand why you chose the 550 TI, however. Just go with a GTX 580 or 560 if money is tight.

I think mine is the worst here, though mine is now getting on a bit. I can't even remember when I built it, it was that long ago.
