Sci-Fi Environment - Incubator Room

Hey!

I recently submitted this image of mine to the CGTalk Gallery, but it has been declined. They encouraged me to post it in the WIP forums, so that other members can help critique the image and troubleshoot elements.

Here's my image:

They said that the following are a list of possible reasons:

-There might be noticeable artistic or technical problems in my image.
-The context of my image may need a more creative presentation.

Can you help me figuring out what the image is lacking? I probably don't have much to work with here, but I'd like to know what you guys think of it and why you think it has been declined, and maybe you have one or two suggestions that I'm able to use!

I like the attempt, I like the overall idea, but I think it lacks execution. It mainly seems like there is a floor plane and texture, and this incubator. The incubator almost looks randomly duplicated across a large plane.

Things to add more interest:
*The character in the tube could be suspended in a plasma like substance, give his body a little more weightlessness. (Not to be too Matrix like, but we need some tubes and wires)
*Maybe a little more organization to the "pods" They could be placed in groups, maybe into a holding machine that holds six of them, then there are more of those on this incubator room floor
*The incubators themselves are pretty cool, but always think how to add interest to different parts... maybe if there were part (tubes and wires) intertwining the incubators that could help...
*Possibly a ceiling, if it isn't suppose to have a ceiling, like an infinite room of sorts, then maybe you add that height rather than going to black.
*And always when rendering or creating an image, you should take into consideration the rule of 2/3... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds

Again, I think this is a great start, and really neat, but I would tend to agree its underdeveloped. You should always revisit individual pieces of your work and find a way to add another layer of interest, and you don't want detail for details sake, but you can always add a little more that might make the image and its parts seem more functional. By doing that you are going to make it more and more believable to the human eye.

Really good work and I hope you continue to finish your scene and get it posted

Thank you for taking the time to analyze and give me some feedback on my image, floorman20!

This is actually a frame from my masters' degree final project (a 3D shortfilm), where the camera executes a vertical travelling, and shows the main character (who I removed from this image) entering the place, so this explains the position of the camera, the disposition of the incubators, the lack of rule of thirds and the ceiling having stood out of the field of view in this particular frame.

I agree with you, though. Lots more cables should fill the scene, and the incubators should seem filled with some sort of liquid, making the clones levitate a little

I'll have to come back to this image when I have the time, and give it some more interest!

Again, many thanks for your help!

on a non-critiquing standpoint, I would love to see the 3d short

The floor could use a little touching. Like draw patern where the scientiste are walking

The computer in the middle is unclear, we can't see it.

Where are all the wire?? a real mad scientific's room need to be full of wire
so you are totally right about the wire!

and the mirror is kind a lazy way to duplicate the scene, no ?

floorman20 - I can't post the shortfilm online for a few more months (policy of the school where I got the Masters Degree <_<), but as soon as I can, I'll post it!
The best I can show you for the moment is the trailer I made from night to day, for one of the presentations we had: [link] (It doesn't show much, though ).
Also, you can see this particular shot in my modeling demoreel [here]

lebaje - thank you for your suggestions Actually, I wasn't trying to duplicate the scene, nor even thought about that. That's just a texture for the walls that I thought would work nicely
