Help on drawing hands!!

For those of you who've seen my thread in the 2d section, you know I'm not too good at drawing hands...
Well my problem is I can actually draw hands okayish, but their proportions in relation to the rest of the body are always way off: either too big or too small!

Can anyone give me some tips, or show me where to find good tutorials on how to get hands to body proportions right?

Very good tutorials, BUT... the first one shows very strange thing - that the hand is 1 head long from wrist to fingertips.... and that I find strange, cause ... it's hard to take the reference point in it - the info is correct, but if you count it FROM the beggining of the wrist joint... it's much easier - I think - to remember that the palm of the hand should cover the face from chin to hair line.

When doing fist - the middle finger knuckle reaches a bit above the nosetip - 1/3 head.

You know - go in front of the mirror and put the hand in front of your face and see where it reaches. On my face the middle finger is just below the end of the forehead/hair line, when it's open.

Every hand is smaller or bigger a bit, but in general it would be like I wrote.

One thing - in general adult man is 8 heads tall, women are 7, but that changes almost in evey case a bit and there is no matter to argue over... if you want to exaggerate and make a basketball player - you make him 9 heads tall, if you want to make a halfling - you make him 6 heads tall...

Obviously you got the same problem as I.

I got some great book here...maybe I could scan some images from this book for you. I mean, if you want them. (They are manly drawn hands from different perspectives).

and read the books there. they are a tad old but are worth the read. if you haven't already been there...and read the books. personal opinion is that they are a must...cause they are free...so theres no excuse not to read them.

I'll give it a try tonight at drawing hands around one head long from wrist to fingertip.

Hey the one... Can you make a itchy tiny little tutorial, wich shows me the start (how to start with the scaling and stuff), the hand, and the shading...

My advice is that you study your own hand when you draw.Whether you are right or left handed, you always have a free hand when you draw.
Open your free hand (palm down) and start defining simple shapes. Primitives. Build a skeleton (rough, from lines) and flesh it out.

Your best reference is yourself!

wow that hands are fantastic....

could you tell me the pencils you used for the the drawings...

like for outer borders did u use 4B or higher......
and what pencil u used for the shading, nail borders etc.....
hope u wont mind answering this silly details....

Man I cant take my eyes out of those hands.... they are so fine detailed....how long did u take to draw each one and did u use ur hand itself as the model ??????

Hehe, I have to admit, I didnt draw these hands. But they are done with an 4B pencil. I wish I could draw hands like these.

It depends on how good you are... the better you are the shorter it takes. I guess half an hour to an hour for each.

the artist who did them is really skilled indeed... I got a book full of his great drawings.
