Frezo I like the head you've made here. It's simple yet elegant and I think if you put effort into the texturing and lighting you'll have something really cool on your hands. For starters, I would recommend resolving the seam that's showing up in your M-smoothing from the symmetry modifier you've applied.

Next, with regards to your texturing, I think your big payoff is going to come from the material more than the actual texture you put underneith. I bet a more cartoony or at least a reletivly simple texture map is going to give you better results than something more complex and brain-hurting. For the most part, some simple spherical mapping should allow you to paint an alpha in photoshop or Dogwaffle in order to get a different texture on the mouth or cheeks. A separate material can be applied to the eyes so you need only use planar mapping to get the iris in there- if you intend to use an iris at all.

Once you have the alpha map for the face, you can use procedural mapping to get the desired effects- in conjunction with a raytraced or diffusion material to get that skin effect. If you want it to look like the alien movie, you need to remember that that alien was really greasy and wet so you'll have a really high specularity and glossiness on that. There are a lot of tutorials out there talking about skins, but I think if you do something simple and concerted, you'll come off with a really great piece of art (as opposed to making a push for a super complex material applied to a reletivly simple mesh.)

Hope that helps you some. Good luck!
