Video Card ?

Hey, everyone!!!

I'm looking to buy a new mid-level workstation graphics card, and the choices i'm looking at have me just a wee-bit perplexed.

I use 3DSMax 5 (modelling and animation), and i'm gonna start using Maya here in a little while (once I get used to the interface...). Anyways, right now I use a GeForce 4 Ti 4400 128meg agp 4x video card. It works great, but just doesn't give me the performance that i'm looking for.

I just spent $400 on more RAM and a new motherboard (OK, so that really apply here...).

**Drumroll Please!!**

And now, ladies and gentlemen, for my question...

The three options that I'm looking at are Nvidia's Quadro4 750XGL, ATI's FireGL sumthin (whatever's comparable to the Quadro), or 3DLabs new Wildcat VP. Now, I've read good things about all three cards, and from what I've read, 3DLabs claims to be the king of the mid-range market.

If someone could give me some feedback on which of these cards would best suit my needs, you would have yourself a new best friend.

Well, first I would ask what your computer specs are? It may not be the video card. In my case it was my HD.

When you are rendering images realtime (adobe premier) or static (3dsmax). The software uses your HD cacheing. In my case I purchase a $200 HD (120 GIG with 8 meg cache). This took care of the performace issues that I had.

My Computer Spec: DELL 1.6 Ghz CPU, 1gig ram, 120 gig hd, GeForce 4600 ti 128 meg.

Also, you may want to consider network rendering. I use my Laptop (Toshiba 2.4 Ghz, 512 meg ram, 40 gig hd) for rendering along with my Desktop and two other computers in the house.
