My new model (finally) - Logitech Z-5500

Hey, long time no work, I know.

You may have seen that I said in one of my threads that I was working on a new project.
Well, its been too long without a showing of it, since I was waiting to finish one part (which has took too long also to model... I'm slow, and I wasn't working from refs, but from eye since I have these speakers).

I give you, the Logitech Z-5500...Left/Right speaker thus far! I tried to create it in as much detail as I could. As you can see, its still in clay form as I tried not to shade/texture it, as it'd probably send me in a fray of rendering, and tinkering, which honestly, puts me off, so I hope you won't mind them staying as clay until I'm completly finished with the set.

I'm going to modify the speaker to create the centre now, finish off the base you can't see here, and create the dock, sub, and controller.

I plan to use them in a scene of maybe my desk, and maybe an animation, and will maybe even think of selling them... I honestly don't know to be honest.

I really hope you like what I've done so far as I've been working so hard on this model, its untrue
(its took over 2 months to model what I have here which may be too long, and I'm not joking.
Tonnes of resets/restarts/modifications, and far too much tinkering), but its my first fully finished model, and I'm happy with it in a way.

I'm still to shade and texture like I said, but I'm hoping for a photo real render once I accomplish this

I just hope you enjoy it so far, and can see how much effort I've put into it.

Very clean modeling, looking superb so far, could we get some wires? It would help also to just see it in plain light, just a regular clay render.

There is only one error I cannot fix, and I've tried.

The part where the base joins onto the main unit has far too few edges (8) to create the base, so i couldn't just carry on from there, as I had problems with the smoothing of the legs after extruding when I tried, that messed up flow with the main cone shape, etc.

So, I ended up having to make a new polygon object with more edges, and you can see this if you look closely, where the edge doesn't 100% match up, but I've tried my best to rectify this in the smoothing process.

I would have made that extruded part a seperate mesh so I could have used as many edges as I liked without messing up the flow, but the speaker itself on that part smoothes out, and wouldn't have been exactly correct, if I'd of just placed a new object on top, and slightly within the other mesh.

Like I said, its my first fully finished model (all the rest I've posted on this site haven't been finished 100% ), so any tips would be great

I hope you understand what I mean, heres the wire:

EDIT:

I'll try and fix a few things tonight, and will have the base finished, which I will then show.
I didn't just want to model the front or something, even though thats probably all you'll see in the scene, as, I feel its still incomplete, as it could also count as a portfolio piece.
So yeah, all models in the scene will be fully detailed ones.

I know there are issues with the model, and I bet if I did it all over, I'd do it alot quicker, and it'd probably end up being more accurate (I modelled by eye).

My mind has been all over the place though with 3D work, etc recently

Anyway, I'll try and get more done, but in the mean time, enjoy a a close up of the back of the model:

Hey Kage,

well I allready saw some of your shots but the others are amazing as well...

I want to see some updates ...

BTW because the speakers lean back a little...you modelled all in kind off a orthographic view and after that you rotated or how? And for the fit of the base to the speaker I think you get away with it very well and sometimes when there's no ultimate solution you have to choose your own way to solve things!

Keep it up!

How do I do the render wireframe thing?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Yes, updates soon, don't worry.
I've been working slightly on shaders too. The grey front is actually quite a complex one by the looks of it.

But, I'm mostly modelling at the minute, otherwise I'll get distracted. Trying to find a better lighting soloution for the minute also.

Tillaart, yeah, I tilted them so they were at 90 degrees before I modelled the base and such

Thanks for the replies. Very appreciated

Hi Kage! nice speakers you got yourself there! so you're building your work area too if I understand correctly? Can't wait to see more if you are, I love the attention to details. It's true that 2 months is alot of time to spend on speakers but the more you model, the faster you become so keep at it!

Started work on the control pod thing last night, and just got as far as the render now. I'm going out in a minute, so thought I'd post the progress.
Heck, I even wasted 10 minutes making a little stand! haha

Its not 100% accurate most likely, but I did use a photo to get the right dimensions for the front parts, so its as close as I could get it.

Hope you like it so far

Render:

I will carry on tommorow
Thanks for the continued support

If your talking about the red and the blue strokes, thats part of the render. I find it adds a camera type effect by placing it on, but I guess by some people, its also distracting

Still working on the sides and back. I will post shortly with updates
