Xbox 360 set

Hey again!

Well, after finishing my first project, I'm off on another

I've decided to further enhance my modelling abilities of inorganics, and this is proving a lot harder to model than the Logitech system was. Its a lot more curvy in design.

I've started off with the controller, and I have the top finished. I may have to redo the button section on the right, as it seems a bit wavy at the moment...

Hope you like the progress. I'll keep you updated, and hopefully I'll finish this one too!

I did start this idea... 2 years ago or more, but didn't have the experience necessary to carry on with it then.

looks clean, the two large circles could probably be rotated a bit to make the mesh a little neater.

Looking good. That's a hard controller to model!

Thanks guys It is proving hard to model...

God luck? Need more luck than just good luck then? Damn... haha

My mesh flow is a bit...randomised at the minute.

I started out first doing the hand grips, using some refs, but some of the refs I have won't work together for some reason, and so I only had 2 refs to work from while modelling what I have.

After I had finished the shape, I then used the snapping tools to create the 8 sided holes neccessary for the buttons, to avoid messing the curves. It has sort of worked, but when fixing edges, to create quads, I had to do a lot of re-sourcing, which has added a lot more edges, creating a couple of creases...

Looking at the controller itself, it doesn't look hard at all, but when you start it...

Oh well, if I can finish this, I know I'm getting a lot better

Thanks, sorry for late reply mBlond

I have progress though... well... sort of. I've finally passed a hurdle I had, and so have been able to do slightly more on it.

I've added the analogs/digital pad, and also finished up the select/start buttons and top digital buttons. Next, the top layer with the connector, and then the back I think...

Impressive modelling that controller is not easy, i've still yet to see someone model an accurate Sega Megadrive I and controller, i've modelled the Sega Megadrive II but no controller. Like this controller it's got alot of curvature and at first glance looks like an easy shape, but it's harder than you think when you try to re-create the shape. If the Logictech thread was anything to go by, I know that you'll not only model everything perfectly and accuratly.....but it'll by textured and rendered beautifully aswell. As my member name suggests I am interested in anything gaming related and will be sure to follow this thread to completion. The last console I modelled with enough detail was my PS2. I love the start you've made I think the mesh is looking very good, and the directional pad button along with the two analogue mini joypads look spot on.

When you get chance keep it up, i'm really looking forward to seeing more of this.

Kind Regards

CG.

Thanks CG

I agree, its causing me a tonne of problems but I'm getting there slowly I think.

I think you should try to model that controller again

Added the top connector portion tonight, and I'm pretty happy how its turned out. Need to sort out some of the gap problems, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

i think you should tweak the handle's shape... make them rounder

+ the start and back button are kinda sharp... they are rounder in the real xbox controller =)

and the d-pad is AWESOME

By the handles, do you mean the hand grips?
I deleted the Start/Select buttons on the latest render for a reason, as I myself knew they weren't accurate

Thanks

Coming along really nicely! I'm looking at my controller here and can't see any big differences, but there might be a small flaw at the D-Pad... The edges of the cross section should be a bit more rounded.. tiny bit, but since you're going for perfection ^^

Thanks Strattus, I'll check that out

Quite a big update today. This has took around 2 days to finish, but its now fully detailed and ready to show:

Its the inside of the battery compartment
Its been a bit of a nightmare, but I got there in the end.

Its still to be joined onto the body, but that shouldn't be too much hassle once I start building the back properly

Thanks for taking the time to get those refs. Where did you get them, or did you scan the labels yourself?

I may be planning an animation with this set once finished (somehow), and using the original parts may be prefferable (but the rechargeable set, since it doesn't use AA batteries, nor opens up is a lot simpler to model, especially since I wouldn't have to model that inside portion...)

It would probably be more fun, when they are fighting each other though, that AA batteries are flying around also

Thats a little hint for you about the animation I've also had planned for a while. Will keep you all updated!

Thanks

*EDIT:

Though now I think about it, it may be more practical to use the rechargeable set to model from, as the AA batteries themselves don't come out very easily anyway, haha
